Brian,

Thanks for the great pictures and especially the floorplans.

Is there anyone that can translate the Russian room labels on the plans???

Thanks.

i was hoping the same thing...

I understand it's possibly a very late answer but somehow I've just seen those plans.

Here's what I was able to fix in the plans:

Ground Floor

First Floor

Was this picture taken when the palace was used as the Anglo-Russian Hospital? The palace appears to have a sign attached with a red cross.

Yes, the photo is from 1914 year when the English-Russian Hospital was settled in the Palace.

Where would they have kept their horses, sleighs, carriages and automobiles?

I was puzzled about that too when I was in St Petersburg in August 2008. I didn'y manage to get inside, but had a good walk round the exterrior. The palace is built around a courtyard, but this is very small, and while you could get three or four modern cars in there (if you can get through the entrance, which is quite narrow), there is certainly no room for stables. Dimitri was an Olympic rider - he must have kept his horses elsewhere, maybe at the Horse Guards' barracks.
