Many thanks Erica for sharing. Was the AP museum open? It looks in the last photo as if the scaffolding stretches across the door and there is no safe area for tourists to wade through the debris. Also the colonade area is being restored where the centre door is where we had entered for the right wing. Are the navy still there and entering through the front door of the wing?

Yes, very good pic's, they give a better idea of how tall the palace is.  Erica, could you tell exactly what the workers were doing?  Were they scraping paint or adding stucco?
Also, Joanna, did you get to go inside the right wing?  Maybe I have missed some posts.  Are there any new pic's of the right wing or parade rooms?   Thanks, Tracy

The AP Museum is open, and they are going to be open anyway. I was there last week and was really amazed that finally the restoration of the facades had began. But the another wing is just the same - no any hints on restoration.

Thanks so much Erica for posting your photos.  I could see that you took photos of some of the exact locations where the Imperial Family photos were taken.

It appears that the palace will be softly sandblasted, replastered and painted. This is a major undertaking.  This being a huge building, they are only doing approx. one half of it  at a time or so it would appear from your photos.  They might not have access to enough workers and scaffolding to do the entire building at one time.

We can see that they have built a little walled-in village on the site for their comfort and convenience.

It's going to be many months to complete the work.  According to their contracts, lets hope that a major part of this work will be new modern roof drainage.  If that is not done, the damage will start all over again.

Let's all pray for the safety and well-being of the many workers that will be involved in this huge repair operation.....!

The closeups of OTMA's court dresses are tremendous -- thank you!

I'm curious about these photos. Can you tell me which area of the palace they're from?

All four of these photos were taken in the entrance foyer of the left or family side of the palace.  The circular stairs  lead up into the central corridor of the private family rooms of the Tsar and his  family.  These rooms are clearly shown on the palace plans that Bob has posted on the Alexander Palace website. It's the first room on the left side of the palace, just inside the outside circular cement steps.   Here is the link.........

The pictures are great because they show new views and great details!  I love that you were comparing old pictures of the Imperial Family and trying to get the same shot.  I have never been to the Alexander Palace, but based on looking at pics it seems to me that the bridge you were sitting on was not the same one where Nicholas and Tatianna sat.  I think there are three of thoses exact bridges?

Great photos!  Far different from when I was there this past November when there was no scaffolding.

Wow - great photos Erica. Wondering if the little 'chapel' in the wilderness was the same one Ana V and the Empress are supposed to have attended? Again, it felt like having gone there myself.

Because of the restoration of the facade the staff of the Navy institute can`t use the central entry and the door of the AIII&MF`s wing is OPEN! Today it is possible to visit the vestibule of this wing and see the corridor.

Erica, I have really enjoyed your photos.  I was at AP only a few weeks before and not only was there no work going on at all, not even our guide knew that any restoration was ever going to happen.
