Re: Alexander Palace Restoration pictures
OMG thanks so much! I just realized how you entered, and looking through my own photos, I think it was open when I went too. I'll definitely go in next week! 8D
Beautiful video, and could you tell me, the price of the entrance fee, and if you have to purchase a photography pass in addition? I know in the Winter Palace you have to.
Thanks soooo much!

Re: Alexander Palace Restoration pictures
I don't know the cost. My wife and I had a guide, and the tickets (plus photo pass) were all included in the price.
You will enjoy yourself. I regret that we did not have enough time to walk around the palace and see the grounds in detail. Maybe in the future?

Re: Alexander Palace Restoration pictures
Surely they cannot only do half the building ! I will be very surprised if they do, because it would be such a waste. While they are there they might as well do the job properly. Judging by the past, if they do, by the time they get around to doing the other half, the restored part will need doing again ! I hope I'm wrong.

I repost this for Pavlov....note the second paragraph.***
Thanks so much Erica for posting your photos. I could see that you took photos of some of the exact locations where the Imperial Family photos were taken.
It appears that the palace will be softly sandblasted, replastered and painted. This is a major undertaking. This being a huge building, they are only doing approx. one half of it at a time or so it would appear from your photos. ***They might not have access to enough workers and scaffolding to do the entire building at one time.***
We can see that they have built a little walled-in village on the site for their comfort and convenience.
It's going to be many months to complete the work. According to their contracts, lets hope that a major part of this work will be new modern roof drainage. If that is not done, the damage will start all over again.
Let's all pray for the safety and well-being of the many workers that will be involved in this huge repair operation.....!

Re: Alexander Palace Restoration pictures
Thank you! I just uploaded a new one, it's quite lengthy, almost 10 minutes.
In the beginning are some restoration photos, and as promised I'll try to get some more posted here soon. Also in the video are palace interiors if anyone's interested. Link:

RomanovMartyrs, you made my day! That video was excellent. I really appreciated how you showed the entire rooms, since that showed us angles we've never seen before. I, for one, really appreciate your efforts!

Re: Alexander Palace Restoration pictures
Yes wonderful video. I particularly enjoyed the close ups and the small details. I am a sucker for small details !
It would be so wonderful once the restorations are completed to compare the before and after pictures.
I wish the Russian authorites would not be so secretive about everything. Why do the details of the restoration have to be a state secret ? Why cant they just tell us exactly what they are going to do, and when ? Has anyone asked ? I think secretiveness is a national characteristic of Russia. (Ii dont mean this in a sarcastic way) If this museum was in America or Europe we would all know by now exactly what is going to happen, and when.
To comment on a post made previously.......I cannot imagine that they would paint this building any other colour than yellow. It has never been any other colour as far as I know. The white is just an undercoat. I am sure.
I am hoping that the Russian Museum authorities will be so blown away by the result of their restoration that they will decide to go the whole hog, and just do everything !
I really, really believe that this is one of the most beautiful buildings in the whole world, and it is going to be stunning, and gorgeous when it is completed. Lets hope they think so as well !! And regret not having done it sooner. Now I am hoping they do the roof as well !!! The photographs dont show us whats happening up there.

Re: Alexander Palace Restoration pictures
I read somewhere that they are going to restore the gardens as well. It seems pointless of course to do the building and not clean up the park surrounding the Palace.
This will present problems with all the Nazi graves. I dont think it would be proper to leave them where they are as an evil reminder of the past.
One wonders what they are going to do about them. Surely they will have to do something fairly soon.
