I think I'll build an actual monument of stones for him sometime.

...because I rant not, neither rave of what I feel, can you be so shallow as to dream that I feel nothing?

That would be a nice tribute to him, Katie.

I take a stroll with Nicholas
Across a field of flow'rs
He talks of resignation
To a deeper, higher power

I pray with Alexandra
Falling to her knees
Begging of her loving God
To cure her son's disease

I sit alongside Olga
We ponder 'bout this life
Why innocent humanity
Are martyrs to this strife

I rule with Tatiana
"The Governess," she's called
The guardian angel
Of the children, lest they trip and fall

I daydream with Maria
We both romanticize
I see the good within us all
Looking through her eyes

I joke with Anastasia
Deficit her sisters' grace
But with her pranks, she's first to put
A smile upon my face

I cheer up young Alexei
Ailing heir to Papa's crown
I dearly hope that he forgets
The anguish all around

Nice one, Katie.

You really should considering trying to get your work published someday.

Wow, very impressive Katie!

I'm on board with Tim. If you can get several of these together you should considered publishing.

Thank you both!
Perhaps if I ever write enough Romanov poems, I'd publish some sort of collection for them...

Many thanks!
Keep writing.
Well, lately I've been writing a few poems daily (I need a life) - so no need to worry

Some more:

One of Alexei:

O sailor boy,
What agony lies deep within your heart?
What secrets are you keeping?
Soon to heaven you'll depart
O saintly lad,
Your health, it fades like sunset turned to night
What tales do the papers tell
To spare your country fright?
O blameless one,
You knew your life would not be one of length
And I fathom not your courage
I possess not your great strength
O martyred child,
Nothing lives to justify your kill
When I ponder that coldheartedness,
It sends my spine a chill

This one's of hemophilia, I wrote it with Alexei in mind:

Viscous red ribbons
Cascade down your body
And tumble down onto life's floor
You sit idly by
Never weep, never cry
As they bind you taut to death's door

A metaphoric one that can apply to any of the Romanov children:

O poor, O hapless butterfly,
Never - shall you reach the sky
For in this storm, you cannot fly
To flee this fatal lullaby

If one of the Romanov sisters were a ghost:

Translucent white skin
A specter herein
Emanates a woebegone chill
She whispers a story
Of beauty and glory
Before the vile, cold-blooded kill
She tells of her anguished brother
Three sisters, her father and mother
For their safety, they gave up the throne
She drifts through the room
As she speaks of the doom
That she never deserved to have known

One based on a picture of Nicholas:

I gaze upon a picture
Of a quiet man in white
Despite his situation
He smiles up to the light

His ranks and riches taken
He's treated with disdain
His heart is slowly breaking
For his son in dire pain

But he knows the anguish shall not last
His faith shall never falter
He knows he is God's martyr
Like a lamb killed at the altar

When he dies, he dies with honor
When his body hits the floor
Is the very moment he arrives
Unharmed at heaven's door

One based on Alexandra's quote "And if they do take everything from us, they cannot take our souls...":

What is the soul?
'Tis but my whole
The one thing you can't take away
Relieve me of glory
Of rank and of money
They never belonged to me anyway
But so long as belief
Wells in the waters
Of the inward abyss of my brain
I'll know what I'm worth
I'm not of this earth -
The only keeping me sane
...because I rant not, neither rave of what I feel, can you be so shallow as to dream that I feel nothing?
"I saw a little girl, her eyes tightly closed, holding to the old kind world, one that she knew in her heart could not remain, and she was holding it and pleading, never to let her go.

Katie, I'm amazed to see you're only 16. Reading your poems, I thought you were older.
I love the ones you just posted. Speechless I am...
