Hi List,

I am running a thread on the Royal Navy forum 'Rum Ration' in the History section under the title 1919 Diary ID - to view, please click here

In short, it's a diary written by a Royal Navy Gunner, one Thomas Denn, born here in Ireland and served in Malta during 1919.

In several entries he makes references to Russian Refugees arriving in Malta during 1919 from the Black Sea. I am interested in all these references, but especially in the reference to a General Trepoff and party staying in the same hotel as Denn, the Imperial. I have quoted this specific extract from the Diary here.

Can anyone tell me if they consider this General Trepoff to be one and the same as the ex-Premier of Russia. I have not been able to find much information on this man on the web and I would be most thankful if anyone on this forum can tell me this man's life story.

Best Regards,

Pat Curran

Hi List,

I have discovered than Thomas Denn, author of the Diary, may be referring to Alexander Fyodorovitch Trepov when his entry reads 'General Trepoff'. Does anyone know what happened to the ex Premier Alexander Fyodorovitch Trepov after he resigned in January 1917?

Could this family name also be spelled 'Trepoff'?

Thanks,

Pat

Hi List,

Here are the extracts from the entries of Thomas Denn's Diary, making reference to 'General Trepoff':

Saturday, 26th April 1919:

...A number of Russians joined the hotel, amongst them being a General Trepoff with his wife, daughter, 2 gran-children and son-in-law, a prince Demidoff also a Siamese Johnny...

Wednesday, 30th April 1919:

...Got into conversation with General Trepoff and his wife and another young person whilst at tea. The younger woman and Mrs General spoke English fairly well. They wanted to get away to the Riviera or Switzerland for the climate as the old people had pneumonia...

I am trying to confirm (if true) that the 'General Trepoff' referred to in these two extracts is the same person as Alexander Fyodorovitch Trepov, the ex-Russian Premier. If the Diary entries do refer to the ex-Premier, can anyone tell me anything about his life after he resigned?

Thanks,

Pat
