You know you're obsessed with the Romanovs when... Part 2
« on: November 06, 2009, 01:15:17 PM »
Okay since the original thread said that thing about being past 120 days and that a new topic would be better made or whatever here i go...

Top Ten Reasons You Are Addicted to OTMA (David Letterman Style)

10. If you like watching Romanov Films and usually skip to parts with OTMA in it (having lines or not)
 9. You have like 9 or 10 videos (in my case windows movie maker) that you want to make in which you already know what songs for each that you want to use... you're just deciding though to be too lazy to gather the photos in a subfolder and start work on them. (I have one but I'm not sure whether or not i want 2 post it on youtube)
 8. You are constantly looking to see if something new has been posted about OTMA in the individual topics more so than the other topics
 7. You are always looking for OTMA related photos
 6. Your desktop is filled with OTMA
 5. You're having a conversation about getting pets with a relative and you mention "maybe we should get a french bulldog... then again it snores... or maybe King Spaniel or(...)" you get the idea! (had this conversation with my grandmother last night)
 4. You make collages of OTMA
 3. You've written at least 4-5 poems about OTMA each individually although 1 of them is all of them together. (i have a thread on here i think i called it OTMA Poetry part 2 or something like that)
 2. You have written a small play based on or around OTMA (mine being "Four Sisters" but i don't know where to post it)

and the number reason you are addicted to OTMA...

 1.  You have your PC AND your laptop filled with OTMA related stuff and photos

Okay some of that took me a little while but there you go!

That you grit your teeth and shake your fist at the tv, when Antique Roadshow is on and the people getting their items evaluatied have Imperial Romanov or they once belong to the Imperial family.

And the people don't take an interest or they laugh and are amused at how much a book, photograph etc is worth that once belong to IF.  Meaning the people don't have a valuable love for the item,  they just see $$$.

You know you're obsessed with the Romanovs when....

When you are sitting on the front porch with your husband, and in the quite he asks"  what
are you thinking about ? " and you say " How hot it must of been inside the Ipatiev House".

Also if you are doing your house work, think on the family and find tears are dropping into the dish water

You know you're obsessed when you talk about the first thing that pops into your head and your friend says "quit talking about Russia for the 100th time!"

Then, you know you're more obsessed when most of the poetry/book you are writting and planning to publish are about the Romanovs.

Even more obsessed people stay up till  midnight watching Romanov movies.

Some of the most obsessed people cry for no apparent reason other than they're thinking about the Romanov's Execution, and people think they're emo because they cry 24/7.

REALLY obsessed people are called anti-social because their minds are in Tsarskoe Selo, running around with NAOTMAA.

But the most obsessed girls know they're crazy when they date a guy partially because he looks and acts like Alexei or Nicholas or some other Romanov guy.

Trust me, I know.  This is what I deal with everyday (except for being called emo, because I don't really think that much of the execution.  Even the execution scenes from the movies don't mae me cry anymore ofr some reason.).

;D  ;D  ;D YES! Keep it coming... boy I'm really starting to like this thread more and more! i got 2 more for you all:

You know you're obsessed because whenever you listen to the following songs from Enya ALL you can think about is the family (in my case particularly OTMA) and the following songs are (yes the collection from Grand Duchess Ally included)

A Moment Lost
If I Could Be Where You Are

Stars and Midnight Blue
Once You had Gold (Tatiana)
Hope has a place (Maria)
and... drum roll please
Wild Child (Anastasia)

the first 2 are in bold because those 2 especially make me think of their unfair fate!

You know your obsessed with OTMA when you (possibly) create your own word OTMA-centric! You think or say something and then think "wow that was an OTMA-centric moment" or "wow I'm be totally OTMA-centric at the moment"... you get the point!
  :)

Okay I'm done for now and if i get anymore I'll let you all know!  ;)

Here's my confessions as a Romanov-obsessed mom:

I am still calling my youngest kid, a boy, "Baby" even though he just turned 3. (no, he's healthy and doesn't have hemophilia!)

Whenever my younger daughter, who's almost 10, acts wild and squirrely, I think to myself that she is acting soooo Anastasia!

When my two daughters were younger I once had "turn of the century era" sepia tone photos taken of them, wearing lace dresses, with antiques posed around them.

No, I did NOT give them Romanov names. Except one has Marie as her middle name, although that's to honor all the Marys in the family.

Yes, we have a copy of the animated "Anastasia," except we don't watch it very much anymore. I dislike it more, the more I learn about the real story, because someday my daughters who watched the movie will learn the truth when they study history, or read one of my books.

I also have upsetting dreams about them- although in one of them they were killed in a different way- the Ipatiev house was set on fire. I was glad when I woke up.

I have been obsessed with them for at least 20 years.  I find it incredibly interesting how a family, with so much wealth and power, met such a terrible end.  Further, I am still intrigued by the espionage of this period in history.  I am learning that there are things yet to be researched, as a result of the out come of the Russian Revolution and the take over of communism.

After 91 years, there is still so much to learn...There are so many avenues that one can go down, and continue to discover more of these people's lives.

I've started to get my friends to call me Alyss, which is short for Alyssa, my first name.  It was mainly because (you probably guessed) it sounds similar to Alice or Alix.  And they thought I got it from Twilight...

I read about every single book and watch single every movie/ documentary I can get my hands on.  I have pictures of the Romanovs right over my bed that I usually kiss goodnight.  Ever since fifth grade, I've been running around outside in my  huge backyard pretending I'm a fictional maid from a novel I'm writing or some time-traveling kid who's rescuing the Romanovs from Ekaterinburg with my friends that aren't even there with me (not to be confused with imaginary friends).  Sometimes my teachers get mad at me because I'm daydreaming about Russia.  I'm the definition of obsessed. Actually, "obsessed" isn't the right word.  Maybe, "Crazy?"    :D

You know you are EXTREMLEY interested in the Romanovs when...
There isn't a day you don't talk/think/do something to do wth them
95/100 times you go on the internet it has to do with naotmaa
almost all the pictures you have saved on your comp. are pictures of them
you google-earth their palaces and are disapointed when they are so fuzzy
you write stories and poems about them
you pretend to be otma and talk to imaginary sisters
you wish your house looked like one of their palaces
you draw pictures of them
you look through every book you see that has something even remotely to do with them (eg. WW1, royalty, princesses, etc.) to see if there is mention of them even if you've read it in different words before
you want to make an album of pictures of them like the ones they made
you write quizzes about them

all of this applies to me, perhaps more coming soon.  :)
