Like Tasia said in reply #488, and you say:
"Excuse me, it's not the Russian Royal Court, it's the Russian Imperial Court."

...when you read a book and the Grand Duchesses are called "Princesses" and you take a pen and edit every single one (unless it's a library book or school book).  Then again, don't tell anyone, but with a pencil I lightly marked out "czar" and "czarina" and put "tsar" and tsaritsa" to the side on one of my social studies text books.  It was getting on my nerves....

I like your militant approach! But did you know that to Russians and most Eastern, Central and Northern Europeans they are grand princesses and not grand duchesses!? There are even renowned royalty writers who write in English, like Charlotte Zeepvat, who use the term "grand princess" instead of "grand duchess"!

But I agree: Faced with the choice between mere "princess" and "grand duchess", I too would go for "grand duchess" in English, even though it gives the Romanovs a whiff of "La grande-duchesse de Gérolstein".

Actually, I did know that, but imo, "grand duchess" sounds better. ;)

When you and your sister are playing God of War 3, a pretty violent game, and all you seem to notice is that some of the scenes inside the palaces of Mount Olympus remind you of the Alexander Palace, and there are a pair of statues in one level that look oddly like Janet Suzman in her Alexandra costume...

Then later you play another war game. "Hey, doesn't this remind you of St. Petersburg?"

Oh I see! I have seen all those pics before, sorry for the confusion. I don't know what I was thinking of, Afghanistan and khaki? No, regimentals.  :-[
