I'm away from my books this week and unfortunately the scan I have on my computer cuts off half of the inscription. However, what I can see was certainly written by Petrov. He notes that Tatiana drew the picture on 30 January 1912 at Tsarskoe Selo.

Ok, i've big problems understanding TN's handwriting.

the second line says "Na uroki 27 maja 1916" - At lesson on 27th May 1916.
I've pronblems with the very first wor, but its seems to me "Risunok", drawing. Then initials. Maybe a I (?) then K, T, N.
Tn could stay for Tatjana Nikolaevna, of course, but I(?) and K i don't know.
So something like
Drawing - I.K.T.N
At lesson 27th May 1916

But if someone understands it better, i would be happy to know the truth, LOL

Thank you for the replies. Learning to read Russian is a Herculean task for me let alone understanding TN's handwriting  :) ;)

Apparently the GD's lessons are similar to their Aunt Olga in which they are allowed to draw during lessons.

Are we looking at the same image? Some of the text ("g.d. Tatiana at lessons') is the same, but the dates are completely different and the notation is definitely not in Tatiana's writing.

This is the one I'm referring to:

Sarushka, that sketch is new to me. The sketch is of Petrov and his hands are clasped together and his arms resting on a table. I can see 1916 as the year but can't decipher TN's notation. But somehow, I think it is Petrov's handwriting than TN's because it seems neater than usual.

I will look for that one when I get home next week.

Sunny, you're correct. The letter you can't read is V -- so the initials stand for Velikaya Knyaginya (Grand Duchess) Tatiana Nikolaevna.

I believe the notation is in Petrov's writing.

Of course V K T N makes sense! Thanks, Sarushka :)
