This book was published during the war and was meant to bring Cameron to the attention of the English.  I personally found some inaccuracies in the text, but it is illustrated with good quality prewar photos.  (I thought this book might be on line here, but I don't see it.  Does anyone know?)

Probably the most in-depth book around on Cameron with a detailed and informative text, though few illustrations.

This fantastic book begins with Charles Cameron’s work for Catherine the Great and expands from there to look at other styles and movements in Russian architecture at the time, including Neo-gothic, Orientalism, and Neo Russian.  The book talks in depth about Adam Menelaws and William Hastie among others.  There is a considerable amount on Tsaritsino and other complexes.  The book is beautifully illustrated with modern and archival photos as well as wonderful architectural renderings by the architects involved.

These four volumes (which were also sold separately) are primarily very high quality reproductions of watercolors of the palaces, both exterior and interior.  The set is rather hard to come by and the publisher went under shortly afterward (so I'm told).  A complete set can easily cost over $200.  Be careful if you try to buy it as it isn't always easy to tell if the whole set is for sale or just a single volume.  All my copies have the same ISBN number.  I'm not sure if it is different for the individual volumes, but I imagine it is. The picture Vladimir posted shows a different cover than what is on my volume, so I'm assuming his isn't part of a set.

I've still got a bunch more to post; I'll get to them soon.  Hope I'm not boring you guys with this.

Have just read this book - lots of interesting insights and info but DEFINITELY do not like their writing style - it is as if this is just another in there many round of world investigations being carried out - there is limited indication that the writers really and truly connected with the significance of the Amber Room).

Does anyone know where I can find a copy of Tsarskoie Selo: De Catherine II a Nicholas II, trois siecles de splendeur?  I have found several websites that sell it, but they are all French and do not ship outside of Europe.  I found one copy on Amazon.fr for well over $400 (too expensive) and I'm starting to get desperate.  If anyone can recommend a website that will definitely ship to the United States, I would be very grateful.   Thanks!

Is it just my computer or is there a problem with the images? Other than that, it was fun to read through.

Assuming this is the same Cosmopolitan magazine as the present day version (Cosmo?), what can we say about its readership? That it has regressed over the last 116 years? Could be. I myself find this 1896 royalty -watching , seemingly aimed at a middle- to upper middle class reader, to be much preferable to endless articles about how to lose  nine pounds in a day or 23 ways to drive your man crazy. This article is actually quite interesting , to men as well as women.

Actually, Cosmopolitan was fairly high-brow until Helen Gurley Brown took it over in the 1960s. I read it religiously when I was in college in the early 80s, when it actually had some good career and money advice along with all that sex. Now it's pretty much a straight-on sex manual.
