Svetabel...... I think you misunderstand me! I never said that the 'Ah. Oh thank you, cute piccie' type posts were not cleared out as a rule last year! What I am saying is that there seems to another similar issue today with a noticeable volume of such posts remaining on threads at present! I am not criticizing Mods...I am merely suggesting another way to combat the problem of 'junk' posts and unnecessary 'polite' posts being left on the threads when they should perhaps have been sent by PM in the first place!

Margot, I did understand your post, just added my 2 cents to the discussion : ). And of course I don't think you critisize the Mods.
Today there are really volumes of such uninteresting posts still on the threads. As for me, I constantly clean up such stuff and try to prevent some posters' eagerness to make a mess in the seriuos discussion.

To avoid clogging things up, I will desist from 'Thank you' posts, but presumably queries like, 'When was it taken?' and 'Who are the other people in the picture?' are all right.

Absolutely--that's valuable information. For some of those questions, I did create ID threads on various sub-forums and stickied them at the top so we didn't have whole individual threads devoted to 'who is this?'. (That eliminated about 10 pages alone in the Imperial Family section once!) Asking for help in ID'ing people in posted photographs is absolutely acceptable though and frequently leads to a brand new discussion.
Margot:
A question posed re:- photographs absolutely must be encouraged! As Ella has said it so often leads to broader discussion and we do not want posters to feel afraid to ask questions....it is just the one on one 'Thank yous' and 'Indeed I agree' type posts which have no relevant hook or lead to them! They should be for PM only IMHO!
