There is a marvellous anecdote about Alexander S. Pushkin at his graduation ceremony at the Lyceum in 1817.

The hall had gathered students, pedagogues and dignitaries in the presence of Emperor Alexander I. Towards the conclusion of the ceremony, following the Imperial address, Pushkin was permitted to read one of his poems - Atheism. The Emperor was deeply moved to tears, assisted by the tones of the school choir's song of Farewell.

His Diploma became a book of poems into which were transcibed by his own hand the very best of poems.

Only after Pushkin's early death were all his poems written during his Lyceum period came to be published.

I think that the tour guide at the Lyceum also told this story about Pushkin!
