It's part of that fur thing that's around her neck. But for the life of me, I can't remember what it's called.

Ah ok, thanks for the info. I think it is called a shawl or a stole.

@blessOTMA:Tatiana looks great on this picture. :-) But what is this thing on her lap? Is this a dog or something?
lol! Actually that's a good question. It's a fox! The fashion at that time was to keep the head on the fur piece and yes,  stole is the term. So it's a white fox stole. There is a  photo of Olga and Marie similarly dressed taken at the same time Quite stylish for the girls really

O_O A fox?! I think the idea of wearing a dead animal around one's neck is very scary. Fashion can be so strange. ;-) I have to admit the whole dress looks pretty good on Tatiana but....ughhhhh

My great-granny have one of these and I loved to play with it...Well; I must to have say I liked to play with THEM, since there were two animals (there was not a fox, just another animal, similar to skunks but white and without smell  ;D) united by their mouths. It wasn't nothing scary in them. I pretended they were fighting until my great-granny would come and say I must not play with her furs, for I could splash it with dirt and such...But at least she would let me to play with it.

Yes, it is. It's obviously been edited since the original is from Anastasia's Album and hand-tinted.

found on eBay....I have books from the 20's with this photo, so it's been around. But  it's always printed tiny. I have  never seen it  this big before I would say a  1916  formal . Stunning as always

Am I the only one that thinks she looks in her late twenties? IMO, she had a rather grown-up face, like in the picture from 1906 with Olga holding Alexei and Maria and Tatiana holding hands, I think M and T's faces look a lot older than their bodies. I think it just makes them look more beautiful.
