I sometimes think Tatiana looks so determined in her photos because one had to stay very still so the photo would not blur. Today we  don't know what that was like. She  strikes me as someone who concentrates completely when at a task  and that shows  in her face.
I think  she was quite sensitive really and you can see that in her photos of her as a child imo.  It seems to me,  they all had very strong personalities, just in  different areas ....but they all could make their presence known when they wished! lol!

By the turn of the century, photo technology had improved enough that this was no longer the case. The informal photos taken by the IF are pretty much equivalent to our modern snapshots -- a click and the image was captured.

A formal photograph of Tatiana in 1914. Is the biggest version I've seen:

Yes. At the early XX Century, yu wouldn't need to be quiet as a statue just to get a photo. Yo may notice it for the great amount of casual pics of the IF in which they are playing, dancing, moving and so on. Besides, if Tatiana  would look determined for a long exposition before the ohto camera, her sisters and brother would must appear as determined too.  ;) I think it was just her personnality showing at the pics. Anastasia's spunky moods also showed in the pics we have of her, as well as Maria's sweetness and inocence and Olga's complicated character...

I'm sure the technology was there, but old habits die hard...it seems to me the Tsar is asking Tatiana to stay quite still as he snaps her picture in 1913 . She looks pretty determined to do so... Of course her personality shows though the photos ... she's  " The Governess"

Absolutely new for me, thanks so much! When was it taken?
