Where is Olga Nicholaievna's legs?   I see flat bottom part of  robe ....but no legs . Perhaps an ottoman is in front of the lounge? The lounge chair 's back is facing the right . I believe she is in the lounge...but an ottoman/table  of sorts is in front of her and is cutting off the view of the royal appendages. They could be over the side, between the lounge chair  and the ottoman(?) There two pieces of furniture there  as the upholstery  are diffrent

She might have her legs folded up under her.

I think it's just a throw draped over the end of the lounge. Alexandra had a similar one on her lounge in the Mauve room, which she made herself. (It was later used as an altar cover in Tobolsk.)

She might have her legs folded up under her.

I wonder if Olga's actually sitting on a chair behind the lounge?

By diffrent material, I meant the back of the lounge and the ottoman....which can look like one piece of furniture( a lounge)  at first glace .So there's a lounge, and upholstered ottoman and quite possibly a chair.... her legs aren't visible. So she's either lying on her hip on the lounge and  has them over the side and the ottoman is hiding them...or she's in a chair behind...It wouldn't surprise me if we are catching her in the act hiding her feet when she sees as camera. She seems to have just moved...When posing, Olga was always hiding her feet, and often her hands... I believe she thought them large. They tended to bunch up furniture  in these robe photos . Marie and her father are sitting in the middle of a pile of lounges and chairs  in the spring 1917 photo of Marie recovering...

This is a fairly well-known photo. It's of Olga and the wives of her regiment(3rd Elisavetsgradski Hussars)'s officers. I wouldn't know any names . These were presumably wives of senior officers. A Russian regiment was more than a military unit. It had a more or less formal social structure and organization. It had meetings, reunions, formal balls, parades, commemorations,a published history, etc. These were arranged by both the regiment's officers as well as  by  prominent( and responsible )senior wives.

I don't know the date of this photo but others probably do. I think it may be the same as Olga's well-known and photographed regimental review (19??)  And no, it doesn't seem like the ladies and Olga were real close., though Olga  really did enjoy being the regiment's honorary colonel.

The photo of Olga as a baby looks like it was photoshopped from this one:

Is it just me or does this look more like Ella than Alix? Further, did either of them have reason to be wearing dark (mourning?) clothing in 1896 or 1897?

Khodynka meadow is my best guess. Alix was said to have been terribly shaken by the whole thing, and mourned for the people.

I think it's Alix, but see the family resemblance to Ella... Her dress is dark, but her hat seems not fully in morning . Khodynka meadow is a pretty good guess.

The mourning clothes would probably be for Prince Henry of Battenberg, her young uncle (husband of Beatrice), who died of typhoid (IIRC) on the Ashanti Expedition in January 1896. Alexandra was upset by Khodynka, and declared that she could not stop thinking of the victims, but there were no displays of mourning: she appeared at the Meadow in white, with diamonds, and the day went ahead as if nothing had happened (including, infamously, of course, the Montebello Ball). Nicholas declined several suggestions which would have amounted to public acts of sorrow or mourning.

I think it's Alix on the picture, for the record (wider mouth); had it been Ella, there is even less possibility that she would have worn black for Khodynka, as her main concern was to ensure that Serge didn't take the blame.
