Nicholas´ diary, 14th June 1899:

"Alix hardly slept all night and towards morning the pains got stronger." So I would say Maria´s birth took 9 hours at least.

OUCH!!

Also, the poor woman had those babies only two years apart, however, three years separated Anastasia from Alexei.

About Olga I have the information: 21 hours! The pain starting at 1 p.m., she came to the world at about 9 p.m.

Alix would have been in terrible pain with Olga.  When I read how much baby Olga weighed I winced and cringed and was thinking "OMG poor Alix being stretched that far. Especially for her first little one.  Ow ow ow."

I'm pretty sure with Anastasia and Alix it would have been relatively easy.

How much bed rest that Alix have with each?

Let us not also forget that Poor Olga had to end up being taken out by forceps so like Rosie said... OW!

All of Alexandra's children had high birth weights -- 9-11 pounds, if I recall correctly. It's apparently a trait common in female carriers of hemophilia.

Better overweight than underweight is what I say.

'Better overweight than underweight is what I say.'

Depends what you mean by underweight. I was a very bare 6lb and had no problems whatever.

An 11lb baby sounds terrifying.

By underweight I mean a seriously anorexic child. I agree that 11lb does sound monstrously large for a child, how much did each of OTMAA weigh?

Again: Back to topic, please.

I'm sure there's another thread discussing the imperial children's birthweight.

Emily if you look a few answers ago, there is a list of the weights of the babies. And I second Sarushka:-)
