Hallo Rosamund

Are you talking about August Noack (1822-1905)? What a coincedence!!

Yesterday there was an article about an exhibition of August Noack  in the Darmstädter Newspaper. The exhibition will be at the Kunstarchiv in DA, in the  Kennedyhouse, Kasinostraße, for those who are interested. Starts on 22. November.

From 1855 till his death he was the appointed "Hofmaler" (I can't figure out the english word).
In the article it is also said that his work included various pictures of the Grand Dukes Family. But I don't know if the exhibition shows some, but I hope, because I'm planning to go. There will also be a catalog of the exhibit.
Landgraf Moritz is taking over the patronage.

P.S. Maybe you can read the article online!?

Thank you for this, unfortunately the translator did not work on the article but I have found out that he 'painted historical topics for Schloss and churches and arranged historical motives from the time of the Sweden wars and the reformation.'

I hope you enjoy the exhibition.

I know this sounds kind of random, but Ernst in that photo has the "David Niven look"

And she was generous-natured and unbiased.  Smiley

We've been over their relationship before and how much was true and how much was bitterness. Regardless, most accounts of him paint a picture of a charming, artistic, engaging, emotional, sensitive (often overly-so) if somewhat weak personality.

Still waiting anxiously for Greg King's English language bio on him!

From the Hesse exhibit catalogue [Portland. OR.] Has anyone  been to see this yet ?  I just recieved the catalogue and it is magnificent- should be for the price !
I was planing to go next month, Portland is only a short flight from SF, but now that I have the catalogue I am wondering if that is enough ?

Here is another from the same book. I am confident that I need not give a bio of the little princess.

Another page. I thought the little crown for Princess Elisabeth quite interesting.
And I am so sorry, I thought I had condensced the photos.  If someone can do it for me, please do !
[one of the things I most complain about- TOO LARGE photos, and I do it myself !]
