Wasn't Irma the prettiest of Sandra's daughters? This one is a dead ringer for Sandra so I think it's probably Sandra Jr. (1901-63) who looked just like the mother with the same rather hang-dog features.

I think the prettiest of Sandra's daughters was Marie Melita. The woman between the couple in the photograph is Alexandra indeed, who was very close to her aunt Beatrice and spent a lot of time with her in Spain.

I think both Alexandra & Irma were close to Baby Bee.  Smiley

What was Alfonso's lineage?  I know he was half French and half Spanish but how was he related to the two Royal Houses.

Alfonso de Orleans Borbon is a great-grandson of Louis Philippe d'Orléans, King of the French, grandson of Antoine d'Orléans, duke of Montpensier who married in 1846 Luisa Fernanda de Borbon, infanta of Spain and Queen Isabel's sister. and son of Antonio de Orleans Borbon.
Alfonso wasn't...half french. He was entirely spanish and infante of Spain. He  was brigadier general in the Spanish Air Force. He took part to the Civil War with Franco.

REMI,

Thanks for the info.  In Missy's memoir's she describes her favorite brother-in-law, Ali as being half Spanish and and half French.

Sorry for my mistake.

Indeed...Just got the Ena & Bee book. It was Alfonso XIII and Ena who match make Ali and Bee. Bee had reservations about Ali's looks and his being a catholic...(well Ali wasn't bad looking but after Floppy (Grand Duke Mikail), he must be just okay at first glance !).  Wink

No pictures of Bee of her wedding. After the wedding the couple posed in front of the bridal car. It is a popular postcard.

I have that postcard. Here it is:

The young man with the cane is Prince Leopold Battenberg, brother of Queen Ena. He had been  in love with Beatrice. The others are the Duchess of Coburg, Princess Alexandra and the newlyweds.

Here's an interesting article from the New York Times about the problems that Ali and Bee had before and after their wedding.

And a link with a beautiful photo of Princess Beatrice on the day of her wedding

We discussed that sitting just recently and it pre-dates the wedding. I think Ursula's site might be wrong in this case.

I think Bee got some emeralds from her mother at the time of her wedding, but it wasn't as spectacular as her other jewelry. At the division of the property, Sandra got the lion share of the property plus the fab ruby parure (which I think was the prime choice of the Duchess's collection). The best item from Bee's share was the diamond Fringe tiara that shes ometimes lent Missy to wear. Otherwise not a lot. Bee also had to sell things during her 2 exiles.
