I'm reading Princess Alice   --Queen Victoria's forgotten daughter. This is a wonderful book...I savor every word!  I am  amazed at the good works Alice did in Darmstadt in the mid 1860s.  She not only worked at getting women an opportunity to make their own money, she helped the developmentally disabled people!  I love her!!!

Yes. I think she was more intelligent and deeper person than any of her sisters.

Hello po3a,
one of the fine things Alice did in Darmstadt was to found an order of nursing sisters which eventually became the Alice Hospital.

I am currently lying in bed in this fine hospital waiting for a minor surgery. Everywhere one can see reminders of the Princess and her good works here.

greetings

I have been reading about all of Alice's good works.  Thank you for taking time to show me the Alice hospital site---I had no idea that her excellent influence continues!
I hope all went well with your surgery and that you are feeling better~

Courtesy of the Royal Collection.

Princess Alice in 1862

I find these photos rather unusual, especially the first one, in the sense they actually looks hauntingly alive. Usually Alice in photos seem to "blend" into the background, as her eyes rarely met the camera, instead they used to wander around, be half-closed or completely unseen. But this first photo here just gave me chills when I saw it.

Please do credit the Royal Collection if you post their pictures. I don't think they would be happy about the spreading their images without crediting them.

Of course, I´m sorry. Can you modify my post stating the Royal collection as the source, please? Thank you.
