Destruction of Historic Architecture in St. Petersburg
« on: February 12, 2011, 10:23:47 AM »

I learned from the Royal Russia site of the very recent destruction of the 'Literary House' on Nevsky Prospect and that it sounds like other historic buildings have been falling in St. Petersburg as well.  Here is the link to the article-does anyone know anything more?  Is there anything we can do?  I think we all agree that St. Petersburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the world (if not the most beautiful) and its charm relies on the fact that the majority of it hasn't been touched for centuries.

Also, if anyone has any pictures of these destroyed buildings, I think it would be a good idea to perhaps start a thread for them.  It could be a useful resource to have them all in one place.

What?! This is dreadful!  :o :( I don't know what we could do, but we certainly must do something!  ???

I just came in here to post the news. This is awful. I hope the destruction of the historical building stops with this appeal.

As I have searched around on the internet, I have found that many historic buildings in Russia are being destroyed.
Here are some of the sites I have looked on:

   1.  oiru.org

Society for the study of the Russian manor

   2,  www.save-spb.ru

Movement of Living City "brings together people who love St. Petersburg and indifferent to his fate.  The aim of our
movement - to preserve the unique architectural appearance of our city

3.http://community.livejournal.com/russkaya_usadba/    I may have this one wrong, but it is the LifeJournal Community in the section
architecture

Once you start looking around, you end up finding other sites.  On my computer, Google translate automatically translates Russian to English.
