Exhibition in the children's rooms!
« on: May 18, 2011, 09:04:32 AM »
I sure hope some of our members will be able to see this in person:

According to Paul Gilbert, there's going to be a catalog of the exhibition. If anyone is going to be in Tsarskoe Selo this summer, please let me know -- I'd love to get my hands on a copy.

I hope one ap member will be there! I too am hoping to snag a copy of the catalogue. I wonder how it differs from "Toys of the Tsar's Children"

Here's another website with info on the exhibit:

I haven't explored this site yet but it appears to have a lot of interesting links.

I love the Indian tipi and canoe!  I wonder if that is something that Jim Hercules may have brought back as a gift after a visit home to the US to visit his family.  I'd be very interested in knowing who it came from.

I was wondering the same thing! I seem to recall something about that. It's linked under temporary exhibits...but I don't see when it will close...They are crazy not to keep this up for at least two years, if not for many ...imo.  It's mind blowing to see the guard house in the painting from the 20's  and then see the actual guard house! The dolls/ puppets  always seem to me to be waiting for the children's return. Just walking those halls would be amazing

We should organize a meeting - everyone, together, on a plane to S.Petersburg!
I've been there three years ago - a college degree in russian litterature has its positive side! - but my professors didn't want to go to Pushkin, and didn't let me go by myself. I tried to escape, but didn't managed. Arggg! i was soooo angry! i wish i could go to Piter this summer for this exhibition...

I'll try to remember to check my copy of Toys of the Tsar's Children later tonight. I don't remember offhand if the tipi and canoe were featured in that exhibition.

The exhibition will be only on the first floor. The second floor will not open.

According to pg 107 of Toys of the Tsar's Children, the tipi, canoe, and accessories were made by a London firm called Hamley's. The shop was founded in 1760 and still exists: http://www.hamleys.com/

It is in Russian, and it's very difficult to find. I've never seen a copy on Amazon. (I got mine in a trade with an AP member in Moscow.)

I really do hope that someone can go to the exhibition!

Lilianna, I'm confused. Why do you say that? The article says that the second floor will be open because the exhibition will be in the children's rooms.
