To my mind Princess Ingeborg was the prettiest among daughters of King Fredrik VIII (despite of her long and solid face). It seems her marriage was a happy one.Though at first she wasn`t even told by her parents about her engagement!
Does anyone know more on Princess Ingeborg and her life?Or have her youth pictures (at the time of engagement to Prince Karl) ?

with her youngest daughter Astrid

Apparently she and Carl made a real love match and in photos even up when they are elderly always look happy and devoted. She was the only daughter of Frederick and Louise to marry happily (until Dagmar escaped and married a commoner after her mother's death when she was already in her late 30s I believe).

She wound up as a sort of mother-in-law/grandmother of monarchs--quite a feat considering she only had 4 children. Astrid became Queen of Sweden (her son is the current King) and Martha became Crown Princess of Sweden and mother of the current King. Her only son, and youngest child, Carl, died just a few years ago.

Um, didn't Astrid became the queen of Belgium, mother of Josephine-Charlotte, Baudoin and Albert the present king and Martha the crown princess of Norway, mother of Olav, father of present king Harald??

ella meant to say Martha became the Crown Princess of Norway. King Harold's grandmother was Princess Maud of Wales (Princess Carl of Denmark). So Ingeborg's daughter Martha is Harold's mother not grandmother, she married Crown Prince Olav. Yes Astrid actually became Queen of Belgium, she married Leopold III in 1926.

By the way I always thought Ingeborg looked quite beautiful in that photo of she and little Astrid. Thanks for posting it Svetabel.
Ella mentioned Ingeborg's youngest child, and only son, Carl. He actually just died last year in 2003, he was born in 1911.

Yes that's what I meant.  Embarrassed  I'm busy scanning at the same time and my attention is wandering. Shouldn't try to multi-task.  Tongue  Josephine-Charlotte also became Grand Duchess of Luxemburg and her son is the current ruler I believe.

So here's what I was trying to say:

Ingeborg--Astrid--King Albert II of Belgium (after his brother Baudoin who died without issue) so grandmother of present King

Ingeborg--Astrid--Josephine Charlotte--?? of Luxemburg
(grandmother)

Ingeborg--Martha--Haakon (grandmother of present King)

Yes, I meant WIFE of Olav, not mother!  Grin
Their son Harald (not Harold, nitpicking! or is he called so in english??) is the norwegian kirng now and his son Haakon Magnus is the crown prince of Norway. Haakon Magnus' little daughter is going to be the queen of Norway some day!

This is the only picture I could find from around the time of their engagement.

Ingeborg is one of my many favorites! Just compare the postcards of her and her children, to the British Royal Families, for instance. Ingeborg appears to actually enjoy her family, and I have yet to see a picture of her looking glum. She had that sweet, elfin look like her cousin Maud.

I have always seen it Harold, I think that is the regular spelling in English. I am American so...

Yes Alicky I agree about Ingeborg. She seemed very warm and comfortable with her children, sort of the opposite of some one like May, for instance. Both she and her sister Thyra remind me of Maud in appearance and dimeanur ( I know I butchered that word but I think you all know what I mean).

Thanks for posting that picture,Alicky! And thanks Ella and Eddy!
Really I have many pics of Ingeborg herself and Ingeborg with her children but to see her youthful face or engagement photo (such as Alicky posted) would be great!

What was Ingeborg called by her family? I mean did she have a pet name or nickname, I cant imagine they said "Ingeborg" all the time. Perhaps it was somthing like "Inge" or "Inga". Just wondering if anybody knows.
