Last night I attended a beautiful (and packed out!) ecumenical church service of thanksgiving for the Queen's 60 years on the throne.  It was both solemn and jolly, suitable for all and I enjoyed it very much.  I got quite emotional when HM was referred to as "our gracious sovereign Lady" and her life of service was acknowledged and celebrated.  She and her family were blessed by the various clergymen present.  At the conclusion of the service, we sang "God Save The Queen" which, no longer being the Australian national anthem for many years, I hadn't sang since I was very young.

Sounds like a splendid occasion Grace. HM appears well respected throughout the Commonwealth, and wider. It's a pity that the UK doesn't appear to celebrate enough, the life and service of The Queen. I believe there is an element that she has always been there, and somehow taken for granted. Those who experienced the reign of her father George VI decrease and for many, due to her longevity, she has been the only Monarch people have ever known. 

Do the current Royal Family have nicknames that they call one another in private? I did try performing a search before posting this question, but nothing turned up.

It looks like they list their "private" nicknames along with those, often unflattering, titles given to them by the public and press...and good for a laugh or two in some instances. For example...

- Prince William: "Billy the Fish", "Wills", "Willy Wombat"

Yeah I found that one distasteful too. But I'm not trying to rationalize the nicknames here. I'm simply posting what I've heard and what I found...

GDI, I think you can probably answer your own question, no? Some nonsense tabloid decided to make fun of the 220-pound frame she once carried. I'm sure that while it was the tabloids who came up with that particularly scathing label the Duchess probably got called much worse in private by certain members of the Royal Family :-/

also i've read some sources which say "lilibet" came from margaret's attempt at saying her elder sisters name, however elsewhere i've read that it came from the queen's own attempt as a child, anyone know?

hmmm.. perhaps it was Her Majesty's own attempt then!

Hello's cover on the visit to the department store was great!
Kate's wearing a daffodil as it was St David's day, the Queen's broach looks as though its a flower so perhaps its symbolic.. But what broach the Duchess of Cornwall is wearing i'm not sure!?!!?!?

I have that issue of Hello too. The three of them look splendid and the Queen looks so well. Camilla's broach, I believe, was a Welsh leek to mark St.David's day, or so I read in a couple of places.
