Dear friends,
it could be that you've heard this on TV news; i also said something on the thread "What's the wather like at your place"
Last Tuesday, 25 October, a part of North Italy (regions of Liguria & north Tuscany) were detroyed by a terrible flood. In some hours fell so much rain that all the little rivers of the valley flooded and a huge river of rain water & mud collapsed on some little towns. Among these towns, some are very famous to turists: Vernazza and Monterosso, two of the famous "Cinque Terre", now completely detroyed and lying under the mud.
Victims are, till now, 9; but there are still missing people, and we are quite sure they're dead.
This is what happened.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRipOulR2hE&feature=youtu.be
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG-SF1unZik&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPtVoqCUDS0

And this is only Vernazza. Other towns - Monterosso, Brugnato, Carrodano in Liguria and Aulla, Pontremoli, Santo Stefano, and various villages in Tuscany are completely detroyed and people are shovelling up mud and water since Wendnesday morning. Most houses are destroyed, everythin was at first floor doesn't exist anymore, people have lost everything, their home, their shop, their life.

Since there are many americans turists in Cinque Terre every year, Italian governement asked President Obama for help. We know americans are very generous people; so, guys, wether you are americans or not, if you can and want, every help will be welcome.
It was decided that, every american citizen who helps us will have a bonus to use for a holiday in Cinque Terre when they'll be ok and could have turists again.
So, if you can afford to contribute financially, you can send money directly to the official bank account of Monterosso, noting in your transfer "help for Monterosso and Vernazza."
Iban IT64W0603049870000046275829 for transfers in Italy.
The swift code for transfers from outside Italy is codice Bic (swift) CRFIIT2S365
Thank you for your help, from me - i live very near those towns - and from people who have lost everything.  We really need your help.
THANKS GUYS.

Oh my goodness.  : (

I'm sorry to say this hasn't made the news here in Canada. It's like I said not too long ago someplace else - Mother Nature is cycling up for another temper tantrum. First the earthquake in Turkey, then the flooding in Ireland, now this, not to mention the early snowstorm in the northeast US.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all.  : (

Thank you! I'll give your kind words to them. And i was thinking the same: how many troubles in a few days. Mother Nature should be really angry!

Thank you for this post! Sometimes I think this is how we get real news....via the net from friends aboard! I feel so sorry for those affected....how upset we get when one thing goes wrong....hard to imagine when everything is gone. I never heard of a rebate on charity! Given how tourist oriented the area is , it's a clever idea . I hope it helps!

Thanks everyone! You're really kind. They're working really hard.
They gave me something more for you.

Hi, would you like to help Vernazza, Monterosso ?
If you can afford to help financially the victims and the rebuilding of those wonderful places, here are, below, several funds set up :
• An Offical Bank Account set up by Municipality of Monterosso, CARISPEZIA agenzia di Levanto
>>>> IBAN IT64 W060 3049 8700 0004 6275 829 - BIC CRFIIT2S365 Heading:"un aiuto per Monterosso e Vernazza" Donation cause: « alluvionati 5 Terre »
(http://www.cinqueterre.it/info.ph)

• And, on the Italian Red Cross Website, you can donate by credit card (http://cri.it/flex/FixedPages/EN/Donazioni.php/L/EN, choose donation cause « Emergency Tuscany and Liguria »)

Two italian newspapers also set up funds:

http://www.ilsecoloxix.it/p/la_spezia/2011/10/26/AOvewKHB-alluvione_aiutare_spezzino.shtml

and

Yes, citizens called Obama and explained the situation, since there are so many US turists there every year. We really hope. We have had bad news, that is from Thursday we'll have hard rain again Sad I hope this won't have other damages. It's not easy to stop a mad river.
They were very happy when I told them i've written here about the disaster, i've show them your kind words and they were very moved, so THANKS GUYS, with all my heart.

I'm glad you're okay, Martina.

Thanks for you kindness, Tim! I'm okay, i don't live in any of the town destroyed, but not far - 30 km (18 miles) and in the town where i live we've the same hidrycal problems - rivers that overflow when there's hard rain.
Anyway, i'm okay! But it's very important to me to help them as far as i can. I can't simply go and shovel up mud, because only people from Civil Defense can (problems of security), but share what happened is the best thing i can do.
