I just sold my second copy. am really happy about that Smiley . i sold it half it original price from Majesty, for used and like new, since i did open the package.

I wonder, Artie, was there any any more pictures of Grand Duchess Ellen's daughters as children? was it hard to couse from a large collection of royal photos?

Mostly of Marina, the most famous sister, then Olga, and some of Elisabeth, not much of just her.

The number of photos that went into the book is 362 images. The initial choice was about 1800. After several rounds of elimination I came to settle on the photos that went into the book.

There is still plenty of material for future work on these exquisitely-related sisters.

On top of that, the grandchild of one of them discovered long-forgotten trunks stacked in an attic with thousands of negatives, film reels and photos. I urged them to search the attic and after much insistence the deed was done and the treasure found. I am hopping to be able to work with these photos later on.

It is also important to know more about them through letters and diaries. A book like "Dear Missy" tells us more about the subject than just photos. I think Ellen and her daughters has more to tell.

I have about 200 letters from Maria Pavlovna to Helen Vladimirovna, as well as about 12 from Victoria Feodorovna to Helen Vladimirovna.

Also have one letter from Maria Alexandrovna to her daughter Alexandra.

And yes...a book of letters is being discussed...

That would be good news indeed. People like Grand Duchesses Helen and Victoria were often misunderstood. A book of letters will tell more of what they thought and end some speculation in the process.

Hi,

With al the various photos you have collected over the years, Arturo, I also suggest a book of my favourite part(s) of your magazine - "Who's in the Photo?"....  As you know this is always my first 'read' in your magazine!!!

A nice big coffee table book - I'd even pay for the publishing, if I thought you'd consider it........
I don't know how well it would sell though, as those kinds of books are pricey..

Always good to have a book of photos. Although it really depends on the subject matter.

Hi Larry,

Yes that is one of my favorite sections inside Eurohistory's pages...I am delighted that Ilana Miller has taken it over. There are other authors who want to take a stab at it as well.

Ilana's next take is on the wedding procession of the Count and Countess of Paris in 1931...and then she is doing one on Queen Victoria an a group of her descendants who were photographed together in the mid-1880s.

I am close, VERY close, to sending THE OTHER GRAND DUKES – Sons and Grandsons of Russia's Grand Dukes to print. It has 272 pages pf text and 32 pages of photos. Hardback!!wo new books

I have already started on our next photo book...VICTORIAN LEGACY – Queen Victoria, Her Descendants and the Princes of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, which is in the same format as DEAR ELLEN.

So between now and the conference in October we hope to have two new books...and God and time permitting I can try for a third one by December, which fulfills my self-promise to get 4 books per year!

Hi Arturo,

Glad to hear about a new book on the Hohenlohe-Langenburg. Sandra & Margarita were bit obscure figures and a book would tell us more about this fascinating family.

Liked the "Dear Ellen" book and look forward to getting your next book.

Best Wishes,

Eric Lowe

The familial connections of the Hohenlohe-Langenburg dynasty are superb.

Beginning with the generation of Fürst Ernst I, husband of Feodora of Leiningen, Queen Victoria's adored half-sister, this dynasty has allied itself to an exquisite list of royal, princely and mediatized families. It is no wonder that Langenburg, even today, remains such a favored destination for the Gotha.

Indeed. I wonder if they continue the association with Prince William & Prince Harry.
