The Deaths of Tsar Nicholas II & His Family:
Images from an Exhibition

The State Archives of the Russian Federation (GARF) in Moscow is hosting a new exhibit on the deaths of Tsar Nicholas II and his family. The exhibit opened on May 25th in the Exhibition Hall of the Federal Archives.

It focuses on the final months of the last Russian Imperial family, along with their faithful retainers in the Ipatiev House at Ekaterinburg, as well as their murders and the investigative activities related to the search, identification and burial of their remains which lasted nearly a century - from 1918 to 2011....

Thanks for the updated link to new material from Paul Gilbert.

This exhibit is being discussed on the "Investigators" thread in the Final Chapter section.

Perhaps these two could be linked for convenience.

The exhibit runs until 29 July.  Closed Mon.& Tues.  Hours are 12 noon until 5:45 pm. [17:45]
I have not seen it, but a friend of mine will in the next week or so. He is a FA and can take a Moscow flight for just that one thing, return the next day.

I do not know about ordering it,[the catalogue] but it is in Russian only, so far. My friend will bring back a copy for me. Gilbert's, Rosvall or Arturo might have them eventually. Trading with Russia can be tricky in things like this.

It's a shame it's open for a short time.  I only noticed later, but they used wooden boards like the fences in Tobolsk and Ekaterinburg as a background on the walls...quite evocative!

I received the exhibiton catalogue today. It is beautiful and as I expected, in Russian only. I can handle that.  The displays are well presented and the text, if one can read them, are clear an unbiased.. My friend, who sent this to me I thank very much. And another is going to try and translate this into English [text] the photos speak for themselves.
The documebts, however, are hard to read, as they  are mostly in  the Russian used at the time and neither of us are that fluent.
From his tale of adventure in acquring this for us, we have the last 2 copies of the publication. It is a good addition to anyone's Romanov library, but only if you are serious about the study.
I have no idea wht it cost, as it was gift. Many new pictures. at least to me.

Robert, I congratulate you.  You are very fortunate  because weeks ago I asked a Moscow friend to get me a copy and they reported it was sold out in two days with no plans to publish more........In fact it's interesting what they said:

As for the Romanov exhibit I was three times there. First time I couldn't come in because one should have a passport to do this. It was hold in a very special place and a policeman put down the name and ID of everybody entered. The cataloges were sold in the first two days. I came there again yesterday because I tried to learn anything about republishing of a catalog. I hoped for this because there were a lot of other people who asked for a catalog as well. But they told me it would be never publish again unfortunately. I asked if I can find it in electronic way and they said some materials were uploaded by people in Internet. That's all I can say. I did my best.

Thank you Bless OTMA. My friend told the same story about having a passport to get in, and he is not Russian. Fortunately, he had his on him as he came directly from the airport. I just wish they had an English or even French version. It is a struggle for me to translate this, for me at least.

It would be nice for other versions , but for me it would be all about the photos in any case.  I'm glad your friend just got off a plane had their passport! =)

I will give it that, the photo captions are easy to translate. It is the text that is time  consuming.

I think they should publish it in all the languages the IF spoke, and that would include English and French.
