Welcome back. And I wouldn't be so hard on yourself. Though I wasn't around six years ago to judge like a number of other members on this forum the simple fact that you even found and joined a serious history site such as this at the tender age of 12 speaks volumes in and unto itself!

True.

It seems to ebb and flow with most people. A burst of interest for a few months and then Romanovphilia recedes below the surface again. Funny thing is that I had a similar experience around the same age. When I was an adolescent in the early-90s, shortly after the fall of the Soviet Union, I remember having a burst of interest in this subject, mostly past down from my mother who had recently read Nicholas & Alexandra. It lasted for maybe a year. But I was young - only 11 or 12 - and history subjects weren't of immediate interest or concern. Then a few years later when the Jewels Tour made it's way to the U.S. I got interested again for a few months...would have been 17 or 18 at this time. But once again it vanished and I moved onto to other subjects of historical interest; American Civil War, Vietnam-era, WW2, etc. Finally the bug bit me again in 2011, almost out of nowhere, and while the last year and half or so has been a busier (hectic!) time in my life it's never really left me...

My Romanov interest hasn't really been revived, but I decided to look back at this forum for nostalgia's sake. Speaking of Robert K. Massie, I read his Catherine the Great biography when it was released, and loved it just as much as I did Nicholas and Alexandra.

I think you and I would definitely have gotten along then :-)

Aww, thanks! I remember getting along with people and they seemed to like me okay, but reading those old posts are quite cringeworthy. I know I was 12 and unsophisticated, but still.

As in "Miss Misery" Elliot Smith? That was at least a couple of years before you joined the AP I believe.

Yes, you're correct. He died in 2003, but we were talking about it years after the fact, around 2012 if I remember correctly.

What's interesting is some of the things I had forgotten about, such as my Romanov dreams and how I found the forum in the first place. I had completely forgotten all of that!

As others have pointed out, I think members' activity depends on their interest level, where they are in their lives, etc. I have never fully disappeared from here, but have become more of a reader than a poster in the last couple of years. I also work with material relating to the Romanovs and Imperial Russia on a daily basis so I tend to get my fill that way.

May I presume that this is also the proper place to post before one goes missing?

We have outgrown the premises here, so the diocese is transferring us to a property approx. 50 miles away.

They plan to open a smaller convent here after we are gone.

So, I'm moving again and, thus, may be without Internet access and "incommunicado" for a while.

But, D.v.,  I will be back ASAP.

May you all have a blessed Christmas!

Well, thank God, the first stage of the major move went rather smoothly, so I can at least check in from time to time now.
However, there is much still to do here in the coming months.
But I do enjoy being able to log in and check the site for all the updates and new information.
Have a blessed New Year!

Thanks for the Christmas wishes, Inok Nikolai, and a ' blessed Christmas' to you as your Orthodox one arrives later this week. A winter move can't be easy, but at least you wil have experienced much warmer than normal temperatures in your area( me too).
Post when you get the chance; your sources and insights are always a nice contribution.

So sad about rob hall. I just saw that he passed. He always had such interesting observations.

Hi everybody!  I haven't been around much in recent months (I've been busy completing my MFA!), but I'm back, and I'm looking forward to reconnecting with all my old friends :)

I have spend days and days, scrolling the AP Forum. It was a fascinating time, until about October 2009. I think I was and early Facebook addicted :D and soon other members of the Forum appeared there as well. So I had not so much reason anymore to post (I wasn't really a regular poster back then) and found it also more interesting to see those, which I had communicated with, how they looked like.

Sometimes I return overhere and scroll and scroll. It gives me a strange feeling, because this community almost died out.

Teddy. It didn't really die out, it just went to social media. A logical transition.

That and, let's be honest, so much is now known about the Romanovs and so little new has come out in the past decade it makes sense that interest has dropped off some.

Mostly of us moved to tumblr. Personally i stopped posting here often when someone told me , while i was recovering of a miscarrage scare, that i posted too much ( and that was annoying for him)

I haven't read or been on this forum in years now. Folks here have always been interesting to me, and I do look at pictures in Pinterest.  My forum shortcut fell through the cracks a couple of times when my computer had problem, was changed or the system upgraded  I am finally retired, and living in Bethlehem, Pa.  All these years, I am still a newbie. I just don't write unless some subject really hits me.  Anyway, it is nice to be here again.
