Identify of colonel on Vladivostok Fortress staff
« on: May 29, 2014, 03:49:37 PM »
Hello,

Does anyone know where I could find a list of the top staff of the Vladivostok Fortress 1905? I am trying to identify an unnamed colonel discussed repeatedly in the letters of Eleanor Pray. Pray said she believed he was "of very high birth" and likely was second in command in the Fortress staff.

Thanks for any help.

Tom

The second in command (chief of staff) of the Vladivostok fortress in 1905 was Colonel Baron Alexei von Budberg (1869 - 1945 in San Francisco), later general and author of well-known memoirs. His family belonged to the Petersburg's high society.

Sorry, a further question. Do the memoirs cover this period, or earlier periods? Are they in Russian? Do you know of source information about him? Thank you again.

The Budberg's memoirs have been published in Russian, also on the web. They cover the period of 1917-1919.
