Nicholas' fitness regime
« on: July 04, 2014, 02:26:07 AM »
I know this is an odd topic but just wondering what was Nicholas' fitness regime?   It has been said by those who knew him personally and from those who examined his remains that Nicholas was a very fit man even by the time of his death.

It is very well known he liked to go on long walks around the grounds or wherever location he was at.  (Does any one know how long his walks lasted was it minutes or hours?)

He also was a keen horse rider.

Is there anything he also did to keep his body in good health (besides his smoking ;) )
Beautiful faithful Nargony.
Thanks Emily!

He had a chin-up bar in his bathroom that he took into captivity.

He had a chin-up bar in his bathroom that he took into captivity. There's a photo showing it on the main APTM site.

His walks would last for hours and he didn't slow down or stop, chain smoking the whole way.  Spiridovich recalls how some of his officers rather dreaded being asked to join him on his walking trips.

I wonder what distance would have been recorded on his pedometer, if there had been such things?

He also appears to have played quite a bit of tennis during his trips down to Livadia. I'm not certain if chopping and sawing wood was a hobby for him as Tsar (I rather think he didn't have the time to spare to engage in such an activity) but he certainly did a lot of it during captivity. Imprisonment did not afford him his long walks, and probably cut down on his aerobic endurance, but it seems likely he was as strong and muscular as ever in this months leading up to his death.

Tennis was a must in the Fjords as well.  His staff rented a field near their favorite spot and built a permanent tennis court there just for his use.

Thanks for this guys :)   I just thought of learning something different about him.   From his known photographs of him swimming he did look really fit.   I should add he seemed to like swimming ;)

I take it they weren't allowed to refuse....
