IMO, regardless of how Rasputin did it, he did help Alexei. I don't really think he was a charlatan since he never asked for money and whatever money he got, he gave away. I think he actually believed himself that he had some sort of powers, but always made sure to say that they were from God. From what I undestand, it is common to come across Siberians who supposedly have healing powers, even today. Many Russians still believe in "healers", even in the 21st century, and swear by them. So Rasputin wasn't really so unique, only in a sense that he was involved with the IF.

I completely concur.
It's amazing to see what lurks in the depths of 21st Century Russia.

I personally think he was a charlatan. I think the so-called "miracles" he performed on Alexei can be easily explained by modern psycology and medical discoveries. It has been proved that a hemophiliac atack can be less painful if the person who's suffering it is more relaxed. So, in my opinion, what could have happened was that Rasputin would just calm Alexei down with his words and so he would start to feel better right away, nothing out of the ordinary.

Now, about the visions that he claimed to have... no one can know for sure, but who knows if they weren't fake or, at least, illusional. There are many people out there who, by natural memory changes or giving a paranormal level to something completly explainable can actually trully believe in it for the rest of their lives and accept it as fact. (kind of like Anna Anderson, if you want)

I think that too. I've only just read the chapters in Robert Massie's book about Rasputin and I was very interested in what happened. I'm fascinated by the whole area of hypnosis and suggestabilty anyway - mainly through watching the likes of Derren Brown (UK magician/'mind reader') on TV.
Through reading what Massie had to say on Rasputin, I think that he was a charlaton, passing suggestive, hypnotic techniques off as miracles. I don't know much about hemophilia but from what Massie says relaxation techniques can stop the bleeding so that must have been what cured Alexis. However, I'm not sure whether Rasputin himself knew he wasn't creating miracles. It could have been that he himself was convinced that God was working through him. Then again, hearing the stories of him flirting with and having affairs with different women does make me think he could have been malicious enough to exploit people's beliefs in order to mix with royalty.
I so far don't believe that Alexandra had any romantic feelings for Rasputin. I think that she, like many people, had a lot of faith in her God and as the area of hypnosis (I think) wasn't explored much at that time, she would have put this unexplainable event in the name of God and Rasputin as a Holy Saviour.

Today is strange to belive in Rasputin's 'powers', cause there are many different ways of healing hemophilia. I always believed he was able to heal him. Remember letter he sent from Siberia during Spala in 1912. I think his words could calm boy, also with sim of will.
Strange to believe, but I do. I read lot about Rasputin, and now I don't know in what to believe. Also, I believe in hypnosing Aleksei.
But then, how Aleksei could be health during war, when Rasputin didn't saw him? Mr. Giliard mentioned since 1914 Rasputin saw Tsarevich three times. I don't know precisely when Rasputin helped last time to boy? In 1915?
Many question about Rasputin......
Also, I don't love he laboured his pace at Court. Only IMO.

Did he really like the imperial family or did he just pretend to get in to the palace of the tsar ?

Was he an evil man ?

If you read some of the threads in this section, you'll find lots of information on Rasputin and his relationship with the imperial family. This has been discussed here often over the years.

Sarushka is right; but anyway I'll try to answer -- Since AF and Montenegrin Princesses Anastasia(Stana) and Militsa were interested in mystic, any man which knew about  mystic was welcomed at Palace of Militsa of Montenegro. So, we can not say Rasputin 'entered' at Palace, since Philippe(and many others men) visited palace before, it was, more an incidental case.

Later, Rasputin was wise oh his influence, and took advantage of it. Hope you understand me.

Well, he didn't visit Palace too often.

And was he evil? Who would know? Olga Alexandrovna said that he was as chameleon,he was able to change himself very quick.

In my opinion Rasputin was many things but he was NOT evil. However, as Sarushka says, we have discussed this in great detail on another thread.

Cheers,

I know that there is a post on this!  I have responded to it -------------This subject has had alot of responses and I thought it might spark a conversation!  I am always amazed by the quick irritation that arises in people of this forum.  The disrespect and rude behavior is at times shocking to me.  I love Russian history and will not be reprimanded or sent packing by this kind of bad behavior.  This is suppose to be fun---at least thats how I view it!  How many wonderful people have left this sight because they did not feel welcome?  I have been in and out since 2004----I'm not going anywhere!

I think Forum Admin is just expressing a fact there is a theme for all to see.  No one has a right to be on this forum.

Your post had NO indication you even knew of the other thread's existence. The forum gets cluttered up with "gee thats nice" and "thanks" and posts such as yours that look as if you didn't bother to look for the other thread. The thread on the book "Rasputin and the Jews" IS the appropriate place to have the discussion about the book and its contents. Not here unless you yourself bring up specific issues related to the topic of THIS thread. There are almost 9,000 topics that cover some HALF MILLION PAGES!  In order to keep things remotely tidy and on topic, we must keep the threads clean and insist users check old posts before asking new questions.

You don't own this Forum. We do. If you want to use our Forum you abide by our rules. I think if you look at other places on the web, this one is pretty lenient and "laid back"...   and just exactly where did anybody suggest you leave?

I have spent a lot of time here and I have thoroughly enjoyed it!  I have also read many senseless arguments that have left me feeling sad.  I get that  we need to keep things tidy...just remembering  to treat people with kindness first!  I am not a scholar in Russian history just a gal that likes to learn more about these things in my spare time. Probably getting too excited when I find a new book that I want to share with others!  Then having someone reprimand me for putting my question in the wrong place really kills the fun for me.  I have actually been nervous at times not knowing if I post in the right place!  I get that this is not my forum-----I will stick to just reading it and not asking questions from now on!  So sorry for the inconvenience.
