Empress Zita & Emperor Karl of Austria
Having been in Hungary this Fall ,I was wondering if Karl and Zita ever had any interaction with N. anfd A. They seem like such a sad couple.

Re: Empress Zita & Emperor Karl of Austria
Since Karl and Zita ascended the Austro-Hungarian throne in the middle of the war, I very much doubt there were any contacts with their Russian colleagues.
Remember that prior to 1914 it was not Karl, but his uncle Franz Ferdinand, who functioned as the Austro-Hungarian heir and attended royal events around as such.

Lisa, very nice. Once in Vienna, I saw a beautiful oval painting of her in the Hofburg Palace. Hanging with one of Empress Elisabeth and Empress Charlotte of Mexico. Thanks

I was a guest at the beatification of Emperor Karl of Austria last fall...there were over 200 members of the Gotha, a large number of them descendants of Karl and Zita...it was a magnificent weekend!

Re: Empress Zita & Emperor Karl of Austria
It was a wonderful day really...and everyone was quite pleased with the beatification.
Archduke Rudolf had written an article for
The European Royal History Journal
in Issue XL (August 2004) concerning his father and the beatification. I distributed about 100 copies of the magzine with Archduke Rudolf's piece to those attending.

Re: Empress Zita & Emperor Karl of Austria
Nicholas II and family were reburied in St. Petersburg. GD Serge was reburied. The Dowager Empress is to be reburied. The Empress Zita was buried in the imperial crypt in Vienna.
Is there any movement of a serious nature to have the Emperor Karl's remains reburied in the imperial crypt?

None whatsoever...I have discussed this with Archdukes Otto and Rudolf and Archduke Karl and the three of them believe that given the openheartedness that the people of Funchal expressed for the Emperor and his dispossesed family, it would be best to leave the Emperor where he is.

Re: Empress Zita & Emperor Karl of Austria
That seems like a thoughtful thing. Is there any memorial plaque or anything to Carl next to Zita's crypt?
