Re: DNA RESOURCEs: Romanov-related scientific papers
So has anyone ever ventured the thought of a new person coming forward that the dna test MATCHED the DNA already done on the family remains, and if the new one matched also Prince Philip, that would pretty much pull everything together and answer alot of the "if" questions, just a food for thought question, wouldn't that be astounding, just think!!

Uh, not really. Lots of people have that mtDNA, as I patiently have explained on another thread. Try again!

Was George Romanov approached when the scientists found the suspected Romanov remains (Maria & Alexei)? (But I know those remains were identified already)

I don't know. It would not have done any good identification wise. But, the Russians did a good job of keeping those with special interest in the case informed. So, maybe they kept him posted.

The recent DNA tests have included Y chromosome analysis.
Lets look at the original question again ' a new person coming forward that the dna MATCHED the DNA already done on the family remains,' [..............] wouldn't that be astounding, just think!!
Does anyone know about Y chromosome analysis?

Sure. It's used to identify men closely related in the male line. It was used to verify the remains of Nicholas II. I know this because my late friend Rostislav Rostislavovich provided a blood sample to scientists for this purpose back in the 1990's.
Someone who is a Y chromosome match would also not necessarily be a member of Nicholas II's family, it would just show the common male ancestor.

Re: DNA RESOURCEs: Romanov-related scientific papers
Evgeny I Rogaev et al. have had there article regarding the identification of Nicholas II's children published online at the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA. The title of the article is entitled "Genomic Identification in the historical case of the Nicholas II royal family".
I have attached the link to the abstract and the article below. The abstract is free, but there is a $10 charge to read the article.

Re: DNA RESOURCEs: Romanov-related scientific papers
You can read a brief report and the abstract of Rogaev at al's paper at Dieneke's blog at
http://dienekes.blogspot.com/2009/02/y-chromosome-of-tsar-nicholas-ii.html
Then if you click on the "online" link in the middle of the report, or click on
http://www.pnas.org/content/suppl/2009/02/27/0811190106.DCSupplemental/0811190106SI.pdf
which is the same thing, you should get a copy of the paper.

And for those who can't slog through the report, Prince Andrei Andreivich of Inverness, California, USA, provided a blood sample so that it could be proven that the male in the 2007 grave is descended from the same patrilineal line as Andrei. (Nicholas I - GD Michael N. - GD Alexander Mikhailovich - Prince Andrei Alexandrovich - Prince Andrei Andreivich).

Re: DNA RESOURCEs: Romanov-related scientific papers
also,
the report says that a previously unknown shirt stained with Nicholas II's blood during the Otsu stabbing was used to compare the blood on the shirt with the DNA sequenced and the results exactly matched the Ekaterinburg samples, and George Alexandrovich DNA.

This thread about DNA evidence will hopefully help those who have questions about how the process works and why it is considered to by solid proof that the remains of the entire Romanov family have now been found.

Re: DNA RESOURCEs: Romanov-related scientific papers
An article has been published in Science Magazine which establishes that Alexei and other members of Victoria's line suffered from a rare form of hemophilia B. I have attached the abstract and supplemental data which are free. Unfortunately, you have to pay to read the article.
