Ok Michael, you have my attention here. Tell me about the detective hired by GD Ernst or where I can read about all of this. Thank you

Check out Peter Kurth's Anastasia: Riddle of Anna Anderson.  It is a good read, even though we now know that AA wasn't Anastasia...

Well, if FS was killed by Grossman, then it is fairly unlikely that their would be a DNA match betweem KM and AA.  So either FS was killed by Grossman, OR FS lived and created a life for herself as AA OR an unknown lookalike cousin with the same mtDNA as FS became AA.

These have absolutely NOTHING to do with the AA/AN case.  Regardless of who AA was, it is irrefutable that she wasn't Anastasia.

Part of the reason people care about who AA was Lexi, is because she was a very convincing fake.  We are interested in learning who this woman was, as she convinced many who knew the real Anastasia.  And for many, the idea of AA being a humble Polish farm girl isn't convincing.  The Anna Anderson story is what got many of us involved in the Romanovs in the first place, and we were believers.  So now, finding out the truth of her identity is important.

Thank you. Now I understand and now hopefully keep us with this thread!

Lexi,

I don't have much time today, but, where I was going with that was, that someone else, including this private
detective hired by GD Ernie, had to know that the Berlin Police viewed her as one of Grossman's victims...Just that is you look at FS, no recent photos, no actual fingerprints, dental records, who else would have been a perfect to single out as the woman pretending to be AN than a girl who disappeared about the same time, and not much was known about....  It was just a thought.

WHY would you question GD Ernie's motives? Do you suspect he was looking to explain away AA as a fake, to keep her from trying to claim his money? WHY would you even have this idea if you didn't  still somehow believe AA was AN Huh WHY would Ernie have any reason to discredit some other imposter and label her as being FS? So you still must still consider the AN possibility?

My theory on this is that no matter who the girl was claiming to be his niece (and I do believe that Ernie was aware AA wasn't Anastasia--otherwise he would be truly detestable to reject his niece) Ernie would want to discredit her because of the story that he had been in Russia in 1916.  If someone were to believe that she was Anastasia and believe her story, then he stood to lose a lot.  He had a lot at stake.  So by assigning an identity to her through the use of the PI, he was able to diffuse her story of his trip--IE, if she was a con artist then her stories were lies.

Just my view.

Oh Annie we have been through this before.

Ernie lost his throne in 1918.

His settlement & position within the state of Hesse was
very shaky in the 1920's.  He was afraid that if word
of his visit got out, he would forfeit his titles, position, fortune.

So can't you see his motive?? He may have known she wasn't AN, but when AA was asked when she last saw her beloved Uncle Ernie, her anwer; "In the war at our house", she signed her death warrant with Ernie, so to speak.   As the visit was not well known out of very high Royal Ciricles in Germany & Russia.  I think he had to find a way to discredit her.  He was just protecting himself & his family & position Annie.

There is no proof the alleged 1916 visit ever happened. All we have as witnesses are AA and somebody's cousin's friend or something. How could he have been upset by something that probably never happened? The reason he was out to discredit AA was because she was causing pain to an already heartbroken family. Are you forgetting he lost 2 sisters, 4 neices and a nephew to horrible violent deaths? The suffering of Ernie and his surviving sisters, along with the surviving Romanovs, was only made harder by the pretenders. It only makes sense that he would want to expose her as a fraud so hopefully she would shut up and go away.

Annie,
Could you suggest books to read about Ernie?
Has anyone ever seen this picture?http://photobucket.com/albums/y146/lexi4/Imperial%20Family/?action=view&current=erniegirl.jpg

I wonder who the girl is? I also wonder how to put the picture on here.

If you put [*IMG]before the url and [*/IMG] after it, it should post!(leave out the asterix- I had to use that to show you what the tags look like, otherwise they'd show up as a rex x.) If you have a photobucket account, or are using someone else's, just copy and paste the url addy complete with the IMG tags beneath each picture! (it's usually the bottom one, look for the IMG!)

The girl is Princess Elizabeth of Hesse, Ernie's daughter by first wife Ducky. Sadly, Elizabeth died of fever at age 8 Sad There are numerous pics of her on threads in the "Hesse Darmstadts" forum here.

Sorry I don't think there is a book just on Ernie, I hear Greg King is writing one. I got all my info from the same old, same old books on the IF and Imperial Russia.

Greg King and Penny Wilson are in the process of writing one, I believe.  Should be worth the wait, based on the quality of their last book, "Fate of the Romanovs."
