Girls, thank you all for your kind words;). If I'll have time in the future I translate two other Demenkov's available articles about the IF.

Btw, about this card with Maria's words. By Demenkov's information this card was given to him already in France by one of close to IF people who accompanied them in Tobolsk. But Demenkov didn't said who exactly this man. As far as I know the only man who could have probably visited Paris at that time was Mr Gilliard;).

I would tweak the translation just a bit:

The rooms are light and appealing.

Regards to everyone who remembers.

Thank you, Sarushka

Nicola such a wonderful find! Thank you very much! Is there any possibility to read in russian the whole original article (and the others!)? It would have been so kind if you send me/us a full version!
For those who do not know, the word "appetitnye" (appealing) is using in russian more for food. But this word was very popular in the russian imperial family, something with they play and which tie the members of the IF and them with their friends. It was so unusual in such a large acception and so many times prononced by OTMA that the "bad" guards at Tsarskoe Selo, during their captivity mocked at them.

How interesting! I wonder if "appetizing" would be an even better translation, then?

Sarah,

Yes the words "tasty" or "appetizing" are better then "appealing" in that case. Russian language is very difficult, and some words have a very different meanings (sometimes opposite), which can't be found in different translators or even vocabularies. But anyway, thanks for correction.

Nicola (studyng Russian from one years old as a second native language, but there is still a big gap to improve;)).

Back to the articles and Demenkov. Here they are: taken from the naval magazine (Prague) - biggest Russian naval emigre magazine at that time (~1930-1940). I have no time know for the serious translation. If someone like to translate, you are welcome;). But please do it carefully in memory of this man.

First article (about naval tie and tennis with OTMA, 1934).

Second article (about boating with OTMA and Tsesarevitch, 1938).

Sorry for off-topic, but maybe someone knows here how to change wikipedia article? I've been thinking all this time to change slightly the Russian Maria's page in the part where Demenkov is mentioned. In the Russian wikipedia version Demenkov "was killed during the Civil War;)", Maria "actually" met him first time in 1914, and other "true facts" all over the internet.

If someone will help me, I would be very gratefull;).
