He always seemed like a gentle, scholarly, somewhat melancholy figure. It's so sad that he and Queen Fabiola didn't have any children.

I remember being a teenager when he basically abdicated for a day so that he didn't have to sign the abortion bill that was passed. Whatever a person's personal opinion of the bill or his stand, I thought it was very principled. He didn't want to compromise either his Catholic beliefs or his duty as King to his nation.

Very true grandduchessella,HM was declared/declared himself ďncapacitated to Reign for the day, after a long (personal and constitutional)struggle on how to solve this issue.

A wonderfull tribute to TM King Baudouin and Queen Fabiola:

Last monday HM Queen Fabiola stunned all and everyone present at the party held for youngsters at Laeken Castle, hosted by TM King Albert and Queen Paola.A rock band started to perform in the greenhouse and Queen Fabiola got up from her seat and started dancing. The singer of the band forgot his text for a while, startled by the swinging Queen in front of him,but Fabiola encouraged him to go on,she thouroughly enjoyed the music.Later she was presented with the bands latest album and asked whether it was in flemish or dialect, but no,it was in english, she complemented the band by saying ;"I love you"!

Most,if not all, have this picture of HM as a devote and introvert Lady, but I think she found it high time to adjust that image, the fact she did and how hit the front pages of all the newspapers in Belgium the next day.HM ofcourse has a lot of youngsters around,fi,Princess Astrids children,so she too is picking up the pace of time to some extend. She's just adorable.

Queen Fabiola's eldest brother,Don Gonzago de Mora y Aragon (87),passed away last friday.Of her siblings only her younger sister Dona Maria de Luz remains.

Queen Fabiola flew to Spain yesterday morning after casting her ballot for the elections that were held in Belgium yesterday.HM didn't have to wait in the queue at the Laeken polling station at Tivoli school, she explained/excused herself to those in line for being in such a hurry as she had to catch her flight right after to attend the funeral.

The present Count de Mora is Don Gonzago jr.de Mora y Narváez,Marques de Casa Torres (1952),married and having 6 children,5 sons and 1 daughter,Gonzago,Javier,Borja,Alfonso,Iván,Silvia.

Belgian Royals are entitled to vote, except the King and Queen,Prince Filip and Princess Mathilde waited patiently in the queue chatting away with those around.

Today it is 14 years to the day HM King Baudouin suddenly died due to heart failure at his estate "Villa Astrida",Motril,Spain.
Belgina Canvas tv aired the documentary "The death of Baudouin" again last night, watching that was as moving as on the actual day and the week that followed as tens of thousands cam to the Palace in Brussels to pay their last respect to a beloved and deeply respected King.

On occasion of the anniversary of the Kings death the Royal Crypt is open to the public.

Thank you so much Lucien. It's refreshing to hear some one who respects and loves having a monarchy. Such a change from looking at the bile from members on the Windsor site...most are avowed republicans...whats all that about?

Ah,that. It takes more then a handfull of revolting queens,as in hail mary,to get me of my views/opinions,whatever.They can scream bloody murder there, not that it will change anything, end of the day they are just too insignificant, sorry. But I don't really want to pollute this thread about exceptional dear King Baudouin with some isolated few. They're boring predictable.

HM Queen Fabiola has been admitted to hospital last night with respiratory- and lung problems .

The Queen was in hospital last weekend too and underwent what was said to be a minor operation,
with hypnosis for aneasthetics, believed to be on her thyroid gland.

Hope and pray for a recovery.
