Never say never Darth Olga. I think you should have kids - and name them Xenofont and Mstislava! Wink

Ick, no thanks! If good looking people have beautiful children, I'd hate to see what mine turned out like!

I'd prefer to stick to the family tradition of pretty Gaelic names. Wink

Elena Ivanovna, what about Morag? I used to hate it, but strangely, it's starting to grow on me.....

My name is Simonette Michiko, my middle name being that of my maternal grandmother. I used to hate my name with the burning fire of one thousand suns, but all that's changed. It's good to have an unusual name.  Wink

No, no, Shvibzic, not at all did I mean you!!  Smiley I meant that people were being kind like I needed sympathy & that wasn't true.  Smiley
(It's a sad story but it didn't affect me personally - kind of thing - no that's not quite what I mean either; that just sounds heartless :-/ Never mind.  :-/)

Anway...about these names.... Smiley Smiley

Well, what I guess I mean is I didn't whant to look like I was just saying I was sad to  go along with everyone else. :-/

Anyway, back to the names, as you said! Cheesy

I was named after GD Anastasia (my names spelled Anastacia) and my sisters are named after OTMA (sadly I don't have a brother, so no one is named Alexei) But all our names are spelled differently from the Grand Duchess; Anastacia, Marya, Tatiyana, Olga (Olga is spelled with no changes)

I want to hav a son when I grow up and name him Alexei, and if I have any girls I'm gonna name them Anastasia (I know its weird to name my daughter after myself kind of, but its important to me to name my children after the Grand Duchess) And I always wanted to name a girl Ksenia or Xenia! Grin

I know a boy named Brandon Kiser who has a brother named William. Their last name is pronounced just like Kaiser, and I always thought that was really funny.

And my friend's nephew's names are Edward and George King.  Wink

Men are haunted by the vastness of eternity. And so we ask ourselves: will our actions echo across the centuries? Will strangers hear our names long after we're gone and wonder who we were? How bravely we fought? How fiercely we loved?

Sailor Baby, are your parents Romanov fans? Wink

I have a TON of names I love for both boys and girls.  Not a particular favorite boy name, but if I have a girl someday when I'm married her name HAS to be Tatiana. I just think that is the most beautiful name.  But I also hope I have other girls because I love so many girl names.  Tatiana's middle name would be Alexis because I always thought that was such a pretty name.  Not after anyone named Alexis though because I don't consider it a masculine name at all and all the famous Alexises were men.  Okay, well, they were actually Alexei, but you know what I mean. Wink  It's a shame that my most favorite grand duchess (Olga) had such a horrible name Tongue (no offense anyone), otherwise I would name my future daughter after my favorite famous/royal persona.  But she'll still be named in honor of one of OTMA who happened to have the most gorgeous name.

Olga, when pronounced the way it is supposed to be in Russian, sounds quite beautiful IMO.

I agree. That's why (one of the reasons), it's my nom de plume. Wink

It's hard to explain.

O   Like the 'o' in 'port'.

L   Probably the hardest bit to render in phonetics. When you pronounce the 'L', it feels as if you're constricting your    throat.

G   Like the 'g' in 'go'.

A   The 'a' in 'car'.

ORL-gah.

In my country, it is the fashion to give children the most hideous, meaningless, disposable, mix-mom-and-dad's-names names, especially for girls. Angry

As a form of protest and because I LOVE good, old-fashioned, time-tested, character-ful names (like Elizabeth and Alexandra, and more latino-sounding ones like Teresa or Isabel), I would definitely give my children such names.

Being neither European nor latino (but something in the middle) I can go either way. And some Russian names I like (e.g. Natalia or Irina), are the same in Spanish.

I have no kids (yet) but when my sister was pregnant I begged her to name the baby Tatiana. Her husband did not like the name, so I can still use it eventually because it's my favorite. I love Olga too, and is quite common around here but it is considered REALLY old fashioned (good for old ladies, not for cute babies). Anastasia and Marie would be a great middle names but Maria is beyond commom.

BTW, I did have a cat named Olga, but she died very tragically, attacked by a couple of neighborhood dogs in the middle of the night (we don't always keep pets inside). How ironic, I thought, her death had a lot in common with her name sake's. Sad
