Here is a video link of the newly married couple sailing away on the gorgeous gold leafed Royal Barge.  Sailors quietly provided the power with their oars.

Thank you Lucien. I did not know that was the name of the Royal Barge.  Evidently they keep this beautiful creature on land in a museum and take it out for special occasions.  Here is a link that shows her in a building.

Hi,

Thank you Lucien, for this wonderful coverage of the Swedish Royal Wedding.......
As with Robert in San Francisco, we here in Calgary are getting nothing about this event;  so we are in high gratitude to you for keeping us current and with such beautiful pictures and wedding lists and identities...

Bravo,
Larry

Me too!
Nothing on tv so had to rely on watching it from here. BUT it would take up so many bytes on the computer that I'll have to watch the whole thing on youtube. Did watch the arrivals and they were beautiful.
Talk more later aswashing the car today, would rather be here

I wonder if it was the same one her great-grandmother Margaret of Connaught sailed in on after her wedding? It certainly looks like it though those photos are obviously in black & white! Beautiful tradition and luckily equally beautiful weather.  Smiley

Thanks for the great question Grandduchessella:

The original barge was destroyed by a fire in August 1921.  A faithful copy was built the next year and that is the one we see today.  She would have sailed in the previous Vasaorden.

Here is QE II using Vasa in 1956.

Prince Daniel's speech was incredibly beautiful and moving! Couldn't keep my eyes dry.
And I loved the humor in Olle Westling's speech: "...so you didn't become a professional ice hockey player, but we are very proud of you anyway" Smiley

A great mix of regalness and the familial. You can sense the genuine feeling behind the largeness of the day.

Thanks for the info, Douglas. So not the one her great-grandmother used but it is the one seen in photos of GDss Marie & Prince Wilhelm.

Yes, if the photo of the Vasaorden barge is after 1923, it's the same one that was used today.  The royal barge receives a lot of TLC and is now over 85 years old.
