Golden Age of Royalty has quite a few mistakes actually.

Ah well, that doesn't surprise me. How many of these books regularly misidentify people, GD Tatiana for the Empress in one book I've seen! Still, like I say, it does have a lot of interesting photos, and i enjoyed it very much as a young teenager. :)

Is Camera and the Tsar's any good?
I don't recommend the book, "Royal Russia:The Private Albums of the Russian Imperial Family." The picture quality isn't good at all and alot of the captions are wrong. Plus, the pictures are ones that most of us have seen a million times all ready!

Holly, "The Camera And The Tsars" is an excellent book.  If you want to learn more, there's a seperate thread dedicated to it in this section.  If you're interested in obtaining a copy, Amazon.com may be of help to you.

Prince Michael's photo book on the ROmanovs NIcholas and Alexandra: The Family Albums is excellent.

Robert Massie's Romanov Family Album is nice.

William Lalor's other two photo books are wonderful.
So long and thanks for all the fish

I would strongly recommend the book "Sunset of the Romanov Dynasty"by Mikhail Iroshnikov, Liudmila Prostai and Yuri Shelayev. It was printed in Moscow in 1992 by Terra. The book comes in a Russian language edition and an English language edition. The book is filled with 300+ large photographs of the 1896 Coronation, Aleksander II and his children, Aleksander III and his children, a good number of photos of Grand Duke Mikhail Aleksandrovich growing up, views of the palaces, many 300th Anniversary pictures, N & A and children, etc.

Another good book for period pictures is Saint Petersburg, Capital of the Rusian Empire Moscow in 1993 by Russkaya Kniga. This book is based on a collection of 367 pre-1917 photographs by the famous photographer Karl Bulla. Many photographs of the IF, ministers, ambassadors, military regiments, naval vessels, buildings, common people etc.

I recomend "Nicholas & Alexandra: the Last Imperial Family of Tsarist Russia" It's the book that went along with the exhibit @ the Hermitage. It has not only loads of pictures, but also clothing, crowns, dishes, paintings & loads of other goodies! I also recommend Peter Kurth's "Tsar the Lost World of Nicholas & Alexandra"

Hello! I lurk here all the time and I very much appreciate all the wonderful information I have gained from doing so!

Now I have decided to come out of lurkdom to ask a question and benefit from the wonderful advice I have so enjoyed reading...I used the search facility and couldn't find another thread of this type, though if there is, I apologise in advance.

I am currently in the process of building up my Romanov collection.  I only allow myself £20 a month to buy Romanov books, seeing as I am a student and don't have much spare money.  I got The Camera and the Tsars for Christmas and managed to pick up Love, Power and Tragedy used for the bargain price of £5 a few weeks ago, and I have been enchanted by them both.  Lurking on here, though, I have seen so many other photo books mentioned, and none of them are particularly cheap! So, my question is, what in your opinions, is the best Romanov photo book (you can choose more than one if you simply can't decide on one!  ;) )? I would like to buy another photo album, but seeing as I have to purchase most online, sight unseen, it's difficult to tell which are worthwhile buying, and at the prices most of them command, I don't want to buy a doozy and regret it.

My interests span the whole Romanov family; as much as I love NAOTMAA, I do enjoy learning about the extended family too.

Thanks very much for your advice! You're all so much more knowledgable on this subject than me, and I thought I knew a lot! How mistaken I was...

You are probably going to get a lot of different  opinions here but my vote for best picture book would go to Tsar:the Lost World of Nicholas and Alexandra by Peter Kurth.
