Didn't know where to post this lovely pic, so I started a new thread.

Did Olga mind being the unmarried daughter (ala Toria)? I know she had several rumored engagements and Thyra doesn't seem to be as demanding as either Alexandra or Minny (with Olga). Was it just a matter of never finding 'the one'?

I read briefly the very lengthy thread "Olga of Hanover and Her Sisters" in the Windsor Forum, and it seems Thyra, unfortunately followed the all too common practice of "setting aside" a daughter as the mother's companion in old age.  That would be an interesting topic for a new thread...."Daughters Left Unmarried to Be Mother's Companion"

Possibly Thyra was a very demanding mother and ...Who knows...

I love the pics with 3 or 4 generations in them.
Here are Queen Marie of Hannover, her daughter-in-law Duchess Thyra, her granddaughter Princess Marie Louise of Baden, her 1st grandchild Princess Marie Alexandra of Baden

The pics were listed on e-bay. So pity they are not big. Sad

I use the basics--their names or their titles (or both). I still miss some because sometimes names aren't spelled right or they're misidentified or they're listed as such 'Victorian lady' because the seller doesn't know who it is. It can take FOREVER if you are looking for a lot of people (like I do!). If you're focusing on a specific person it shouldn't take too long.

I was able to get those 2 poses off of ebay about 1 yr ago--they pop up from time to time. There's another one (a group shot) that I'll try to get out and scan. I'm at a loss right now until I get new photo editor software though.  Sad

Those 2 cards (Queen Marie and her family) were listed on ebay.de, a German site in the "Adels" category. But usually you can find many wonderful and amazing postcards, cabinet photos and CDVs on ebay.com in the "Collectibles -Postcards and Paper - Postcards- Royalty" or "Collectibles -Photographic images-Pre 1940s -CDVs or Cabinet Photos".

Thank you all for the great pictures Smiley
Eventhough Thyra and her children were living in exile, they certanly had the money to live like their relatives or even better.
I have read somewhere that Olga stayed unmarried, because she couldnt have the man that she loved. But I dont know who and why!

Thyra and her daughters among the relatives.
Olga stands behind Margrethe of Denmark (Parma) and Prince Georg of Greece (grand moustaches!!). Alexandra stands behind Minny and Thyra, near her husband Friedrich Franz. I am not sure about Marie Louise...Perhaps she is just behind Alexandra.

Svetabel,
What an interesting group picture.  Thanks for posting it.  I've always been very interested in Thyra and her family.

Do you know what year the picture was taken?  Are you able to identify the other people in it?

The picture was taken in 1928, just before Maria Fedorovna's death.
First row: Prss Margrethe of Parma (daughter of Pr.Waldemar), Prince George of Greece, Eleonore.nee Green (spouse of Pr. Viggo and I am not sure was she a Princess or Countess Rosenborg), Empress Maria Fedorovna, Duchess Thyra with Prss Thyra of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Huh
2d row (behind George of Greece): Prss Olga and Huh
2d row (behind MF and Thyra): Huh, Grand Duchess Alexandra and her spouse GD Friedrich Franz of Mecklenbourg-Schwerin.
3d row: Prince Waldemar, possibly Prss Marie Louise of Baden Huh and Huh

Eleonore Green would have been a Countess Rosenborg.

I wonder about the three young men.  They look a lot like Thyra's sons, but they are not of the right age, and two of them were of course already dead.  The youngest boy, in the lower right hand corner, looks almost identical to Thyra's middle son, Christian, who died, I think, in 1901 at the age of 16.

Could they have been Thyra's grandsons, the 3 oldest sons of Ernest Augustus III and Viktoria Luise? (Ernest Augustus IV, George William, Christian)

The youngest could have been Christian, born in 1919, and the middle one could have been either Ernest Augustus IV or George William, born in 1914 and 1915 respectively.

I'm not sure about the young man in the top right of the picture....

Any thoughts?

The young man in the top right might be the eldest grandson of Pr.Waldemar - Waldemar (1915-95), son of Pr.Aage.
