I suppose it could be, but it still strikes me like looking at a wretched homeless person on the street and saying "how's it going; I know what it's like".

Daisy needed money and help and Alexandra, at least as evidenced by her letter/quote, offered a silly greeting and concern as if she was asking Daisy how she was doing after a party when the guests stayed too long.

This shows how removed the safe royals were not only from their own subjects but from the realities of need even amongst their own ranks. Extreme affluence is quite a syndrome.

I interpreted it the way Eddieboy did--that Alexandra knew of the circumstances rather than expressing an empathetic 'I know'. She might not have wanted to send Daisy money--many royals didn't like handouts--or thought that Daisy's family, well-connected and wealthy that they were, could help. After all, Alix was a friend whereas Daisy had wealthy immediate family. At least I think there were still wealthy at that period, perhaps I'm incorrect? Her brother George had divorced Jennie Churchill by then but was remarried to the famous actress Mrs Patrick Campbell while her sister was still married to the Duke of Westminster.

Yes, you are probably correct along with EddieBoy, but my alarms go off when it looks like a let them eat cake attitude.

I can't help but have the song "God Bless the Child" in my head repeating itself ever since reading how Alexandra reacted to what I interpreted as cry for help from Daisy.

I'm reading Daisy Pless' wonderful memoirs/diaries and after I googled her, discovered that there is no information about the title. Her first two sons died in '84 and Bolko, the youngest, was the only one with issue (anyone know how he died at 26?), but does anyone know what happened to the title? Was it unable to pass to the nearest male relation, or did Bolko's son and namesake decide not to use it(or were titles abolished in post-WWII Germany)? Thanks!
