Your favorite pictures of Maria

Although, that being said, none of us having seen the real maria in the flesh know her colouring etc. Most books say she was a blonde type, though not as fair as Olga - I suppose she was one of those blondes whose hair colour darkens as they grow older. It looks like she must have been quite fair as a young girl, and in a few photos you can indeed see that she must have had light hair as a young girl.

True enough, although for me it's not only the hair colour. The face structure and so on... : )

What color was Maria's hair? She looks blonde in some photos as you said.

From what I´ve read Maria was very dark blonde, almost brown and had golden glints in her hair.

Do you know how old was the little Marie in the photo that I posted many replies before? She looks very young, in my opinion less than three years old.

If you mean this one, it´s probably taken in 1901, so Maria would be about two years old.

I never thought that portrait looked anything like Maria. It isn't just her hair color. The portrait has a totally different face.

I saw the portrait in Delaware and I feel the same way. Not only the coloring but everything about her doesn't look like any of the Girls. I wonder if the archives made a mistake. This portrait was found in some very bizarre government collection.

Above all I wonder why there is just a portrait of Maria and not of any of her siblings. Wouldn't NA wanted to have a painting from all of their children? Maybe Makovsky did see the GD anywhere or painted it just from his imagination....or anybody disarranged the titles. Interesting to find out.

Hair color can change a lot, but it doesn't even have her famous blue eyes.

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be Marie, but you're right - it doesn't look like her at all.

I agree with Tina. It does resemble the famous 1906 photoset.
