The genealogy of Savoia-Carignano branch. Below the genealogy there is the castle of Racconigi, main summer estate of the Carignano.

Thank you, Marc & Amedeo for this great incursion into the Savoy-Carignan's!!!  One of my favorite families, there is never enough information on them in English.
Thomas Francis's marriage to Marie was very political as one might guess.  Richelieu was buffering France's borders and strengthening the crown's power.  Thomas's mother being Spanish was a big point in the Habsburg's favor so Richelieu had to do something about that.  He had beheaded Marie's brother for lèse-majesté. Being of Royal Bourbon blood although too distant from the throne to be a "Prince of the Blood", he and his relatives were very jealous of their power and influence and their ability to challenge the crown.  Richelieu was doing away with all that and Soissons lost his head.  All his property, which was considerable, escheated to the crown.  In order to woo the Savoy's, Richelieu allowed the restoration of the families's status and property and, almost unheard of, allowed it to pass through Soissons' sister in marriage which was arranged to Thomas Francis 1st Prince of Carignan.  As Amedeo pointed out, this didn't work as Thomas fought for the Spanish anyway.

By the way, Amedeo, what can you tell me of Maria Cristina of Saxony-Curland, Carlo Emanuele's wife?  I have studied a little of the Biron's of Curland.  Who is this princess?
