Anastasia's letters and notes

Here is a copy of a letter written by Grand Duchess Anastasia to her cousin Lord Louis Mountbatten (Dicky), the son of her mother’s eldest sister Victoria. Dicky was only a year older than Anastasia and a year younger than her sister Maria. The cousins probably only met once, in 1909, when the Imperial Family visited their family in England.

I was looking into my "Anastasia's Album" book and saw a picture of GD Anastasia's schoolbook.

Can anyone translate the label on her schoolbook?

It is on page 26.

I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for posting those great letters!. I know they met during the Romanov's long stay in Germany in 1910. ...and at Peterhof at some point as well...this is based on photos of them together.....plus there are photos of Mountbatten's elder brother, George,  with Olga and Marie at Peterhof  in 1915. But Lord Louis might not have been there at that time. It might have been on the 1910 trip when Mountbatten's became determined to marry Maria. He said of her, " you could not imagine anyone being more beautiful"  and always kept her photogragh.

Do you mean the blue notebook? the label (the part written by an) is in english
If you mean the things labelled in russian on the edges, it's a surname, so i think the one who produces/sells that notebooks, than number which states how many lines for pages and how thick the lines are.

That's a good theory BlessOTMA. Also, knowing the Empress's frugality, she might have sent a maid to a discount store?

However, I thought the imperial children's schooling is budgeted, I don't seem to recall at the moment.

Need to go to the homepage of AP to double-check. 

What amazed me about Gillard and Gibb was how busy they were elsewhere and for years . I assumed all thier time was taken up tutoring the family. But no, they  had other students in St. Petersburg and were busy in professional associations as well. Gibbs even had a school I believe... It would be a simple matter for him to bring to AP the same notebooks his  other students used . Seems to me the Little Pair's Siberian English work books were store bought as well

Forgive me for the ink spots (? I don't know how to translate it correctly).

I think "ink spots" if not correct (english is not my mothertongue so i don't know) is understandable. I assume she's meaning there are some stains of ink on the paper.

Ahh, now I remember the right word to use for the ink spots — it must be "smudges". LOL, btw, I got that letter from here. The word for мазню when translated by Google is "daub". I thought it was ink spots that time I was translating, but then suddenly I thought of smudges today ^^
