Yes, I've been beaten out on more things then I'd like to remember. Some that would've just been nice to have, others some real treasures I would've like to have gotten. There was one bidder for the longest time who could go up to $300 or $500 on items. I don't have those kinds of deep pockets!

I came across the testament of GDss Elizaveta written by her just after GD Sergei's death. It's a draft in English, now preserved at the Russian State Archive.

And her will about her portraits (which belonged to GD Sergei) is such as:

Found this portrait by Kaulbach. It's b/w but quite pretty though. Love to see this in color. Was it really drawn b/w (charcoal?) or in color?  Smiley Anyone can help?

This should have been for her sister Viktoria.

RN

This - for sister Alix.

Here's the full B and w portrait:

This had been given to a museum in St-Petersbourg.

Also she mentions 2 more Kaulbach's works:

A portrait in profile by Kaulbach - to GD Dmitriy P.
Pastel by Kaulbach, enface, red-blue colours, the forest in the background - to sister Irene.

I was able to find this portrait of Ella and Countess Elizaveta Semeonovna Olsoufieff. It was by Kaulbach and was commissioned by Countess Olsoufieff in 1912. The copy was very small, and anyone who has a bigger picture can post it here. Thanks!

I think the portrait of Ella which Svetabel quoted on her post above resembles the one which you are looking for. Or, could they be the same painting?

I don't think it is the same, but it could be another sketch done in the same sitting from another angle.
