Jacquetta, Duchess of Bedford

I know there is quite an abundance of information on this remarkable and fascinating woman after her marriage to Woodville, but I am curious about details of her first marriage and early life, and her own parents and siblings.

Anyone have any information to share?

And can any of you guys with extensive genealogical charts tell me if she was descended from Joan of Kent, through her daughter who married into the St. Pols?

Jacquetta was the daughter of Peter of Luxembourg Count de St pol.Maud Holland married Waleran de St pol so there is possibly a link but my genealogical tree isn't that extensive. Jaquetta married John Duke of Bedford in Therouanne, France in 1433 and John died 2 years later at his house -"Joyeux Repos" in Rouen. John had 2 children, Richard and Mary. now, Weir cites these two as being illegitimate and doesn't give the mother's name. However, other sources claim that they were the children of John and Jacquetta. They were only married for 2 years so there wouldn't have been time for any more children and she was obviously, highly fertile given that she had 16 children with Richard Woodville.

Maud Holland and Waleran had a daughter, Jeanne, who married into the Limbourg family, so Jacquetta was not a descendant of Maud.

Hmm . . . so whether or not the children were illegitimate, John was fertile, and so was Jacquetta, so perhaps they were legitimate . . .

A wesite I know listed the girls as the daughters of John and Jacquetta. Mary married a  Peter de Montferrat and died after 1458, apprently, while nothing is known of Richard.

Yeah, didn't think there was a link .... I couldn't find one but I didn't look for very long.

So not every royal Plantagent couple were related. Hmm, the more you know!  

Jacquetta is a very interesting woman, as are so many during the times of the Plantagenets.She married beneath her social station when she married Richard Woodville and they were fined by Henry VI's government for marrying without approval of the Crown. There was then an undignified scrabble to raise Richard to the correct social standing.
She was obviously a greedy  and vindictive woman-to wit- the unrelenting persecution of a rich citizen of London,Thomas Cook,after he refused to sell them a much desired tapestry.
In 1470 charges were levelled against her in the King's Council. This was an allegation of sorcery-casting the King's horoscope without Royal Sanction. Unlike Eleanor Cobham, she was not imprisoned.
{Dabbling in the occult seemed to be quite a pastime of the rich in those days}

Was she close to Elizabeth, I wonder?

Who cansay. I know she served her daughter on her knees but maybe that was court etiquette

And Elizabeth consented on her mother serving her on her knees!??

I would think that Elizabeth probably relished it!!
