I also read that she was a vegetarian. It was in Imperial Family, in a thread where someone asked what the IF ate.

You can find that info here, Laura Mabee:

You have to read the thread through, though.

Good luck!!

People back then certainly didn't have the knowledge we have today about diet and exercise, even as late as 1918. Also, rounder figures were more popular back then. In the modern age, it is fashionable to be stick thin. Back then, it was good to be thin, it was just that it wasn't stick thin. People liked curves more. 8)

Yes, she wasn't fat; she just had curves. But this topic has been explored before. It is interesting to debate these things; but is not our perspective sometimes too modern? What would Marie have thought of the title of this thread, anyway? Marie's figure is much better of a title. :)

I understand what you mean, Romanov Fan, but if they loved curves soo much, how come women had to wear corsets and such???
Well, I know the answer to that, of course, but I was just wondering.
Though, a thin waist does give you curves, but not the "fat" kind.
For instance, I weigh 70 ( ;D) pounds and have a very thin waist, which gives me...*shudders* curves.

They liked thin waists, wasp waists as they were called. But in general the figure could be rounder. It was not so much the cultural idea for people to be stick thin. I think thiness was still the standard, however. But thiness like you run into in today's celebrities was not that common, nor encouraged. But waists were supposed to be tiny,of course, in different decades different ideals were the norm. ;)

True.
Look at the 40, 50, 60s. Curvier role models, that were NOT fat: Marylin Monroe, etc.

Yes, Marilyn Monroe is a good example of this. Todays celebrities just get thinner and thinner, that is the trend.. in Victorian times you could have some flesh on you.

Empress Elizabeth of Austria did indeed place much importance on being thin, to the detriment of her health, so she was like celebrities of today in that regard. She wore herself out with her obsessive desire to remain young, beautiful, and thin forever.. which you can't. GD Marie was a little rounder than some, but that was her natural build, it suited her. It was part of her beauty, and I cannot imagine a stick thin Marie. Some people are meant  to have more curves, although today people might want Marie a bit thinner.

But, did'nt Maria lose weight while their imprisonment?
The diary entry from Alexandra says that Anastasia was fat, but no mention of Maria. Maybe she ate less or just grew out of her "Baby Fat".
I am confused. ???

She did. I believe we're talking about the pre-abdication period.
