Badge for Russian-German comradeship
« on: August 21, 2005, 03:39:26 AM »

This unlikely token of Russian-German battle comradeship was issued in 1912, to mark the centenary of the Russian-German Legion formed during the Napoleonic wars. Just two years before WWI...

I'm not sure it is a Russian-German friendship badge in the strictest sense. There is one particular German regiment notated (30th Infantry). I wonder if the 30th Infantry inherited the regimental traditions/battle honors of the 1812 Russo-German Legion. The two figures are not a German shaking hands with a Russian; they are a modern (1912) 30th Infantry Regiment soldier shaking hands with a 1812 Russo-German legionaire, perhaps in the sense that he is his regimental ancestor.

Just a hypothesis...
