Congratulations Anya, your photographs are wonderful.   The mocked up interiors of the Alexander Palace reflect the paucity of the place, while the sadness of the palace is so amply demonstrated in Scott's brilliant exterior photography.

The photographs of the clothes are excellent.   Alexei's coats were returned from Tobolsk.   He must have outgrown them while the family was captive there.   When he and his sisters were removed to Ekaterinburg, they must have decided to leave behind these heavy items of packing.

Dear Anya, I appreciate so much your lovely pictures....but especially the close up one of the girls court dress.  I really had no idea how fantastically beautiful they were, with the silver fabric and the sparkles....

So can one actually go INSIDE the Alexander Palace? I thought it was closed? The pictures of the outside look so run down...
Where were these photographs taken?

Love, Sarastasia xxx

P.S.: thank you so much for the WONDERFUL photos!

I cannot begin to describe how wonderful these pictures are , Anya. All I can say is thank you very, very much!
Sarastasia, I am not so sure myself, I usually hang about the other boards, about the IF in the past, but I think that you can visit the interior of the Alexander Palace for a small fee....but I would pay ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING to enter!!
Anyhow, I believe that it is only the main floors of the AP that are open to the public, you can not go to the upstairs bedrooms, though Bob A. did, but you know, he is a VIP  ;)
It is a specific wing of the AP, also that is open to the public, I don't know which one, though.
Sorry for my empty info here, but I don't know much about the AP nowadays!  :-[

A heartfelt Thank You, Anya !

Your photographs are beyond beautiful and quite breathtaking.

I adore the repetition of the Cross and Circular pattern in so many fabrics and materials in the fabled Mauve Room. It brings a special harmony ! You have made us feel as though we could reach out and touch the beauty of it all.
To know what you prefer, instead of humbly saying

SkandarsQueen has it right; the first floor of one wing is open to the public.

Here is a website with the hours and days it is open:
http://eng.tzar.ru/information/operating

Russians use the grounds around the palace for recreation. On my visit, a few locals were swimming in the pond out front and picnicing on the bank. I don't know if the Tsar and his family ever swam there, but if you go, bring your bathing suit! :D

Thank you for the beautiful pictures.

Didnt you in a way felt a bit "cheated" when you visited.

I did... Dont get me wrong, I still loved the fact that I was able to BE there.... but just seeing empty room after empty room... and just a large b/w pic on the back.. I dont know... I felt like they could do so much better.......
