Someone asked on the Nijinsky thread if anyone skated any programs about the Romanovs. Here are two photos of the only one that I know of. 4 time world champions and Olympic champions Natalia Bestamianova and Andrei Bukin, 1988 Olympic ice dance champions.

I don't know what the music is, but the program is titled, RASPUTIN. It is one of their trademark programs and is regarded by many to be "over-the-top." But I must say those who say that probably don't know the story/legend. Bukin "dies" four times in the 7+ minute program, and that's just at the beginning. At the end he and Natalia both die, to my recollection, to the sound of gunshots.

Wow! Isn't Andrei Bukin some Rasputin... Look at his eyes...  :o

I remember B&B well, and I've seen some photos of the "Rasputin" routine before, but never seen that program live! Do you know if it can be downloaded somewhere?

And yes, there were mentions that "Anastasia" program has been performed by some skaters, for example Tara Lipinski...

Thanks, Katia

You asked the right girl!

go to

www.rinkside.org and follow the instructions there to download the software program DC++ and then once you have it, and it's set up to RinkSide (the instructions are all there!) Search for Rasputin, you should be able to find it! The best performance (well the only performance I saw) was 1995 Legends.

RinkSide is a JACKPOT for skating programs. We're talking Peggy Flemming's Olympic program, Toller Cranston, Torvil and Dean, even junior programs. I even have Gordeeva and Grinkov's 1982 Junior Worlds program, they skated an adorable program to Ice Castles. The audio is poor and it's in black and white but it's still amazing. Of course you can get recent stuff too, like the 2004 Marshall's Challenge. You can even have Japanese, Canadian, Russian, and French National Championships. Also, most of the stuff I downloaded has Japanese commentary, how cool is that? I downloaded Ina and Zimmerman's program to At The Beginning (this was one of their very first together!) and it was wonderful. You can hear American commentary and in the background you can hear Japanese commentary too.  And you can chat. I'm sure you'll be right at home there! Should you see me, my SN is AnyaNikolaievna hehe.

Yes, Tara Lipinski did skate to the music from the animated movie Anastasia in the skating season of 1997/1998. She used it as her short program and it contributed to her winning gold at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan. It was a very good program- you could tell that she loves what she does.

LOL she finished second in the short program to Michelle Kwan. However, yes, it did contribute to her winning, because if you are in the top three after the short, in the long program (aka freeskate) you "control your own destiny" so says Terry Gannon (commentator).

Yum, yeah, I knew that she finished second in the short program, but that program does contribute to the final standings...

The Free Skate is worth 50%, and the short program is worth 30%, and the qualifying round takes up the leftover 20%.

Wish 1998 had had the most artistic skater win, like in the pairs in 2002.

I was just watching The Night Gallery on the Mystery channel & they had an episode on called Rare Objects.  Its about a man who "collects" famous people who have disappeared.  At the ever end he shows his collection to the newest member of his collection & the first person he shows is Anastasia. She is sitting in a chair doing needlework.

In a strange way,Anastasia would probaly be alot safer with the man who collected rare items and people, than the horrible fate that was hers   and  family.

I'm going to see that in the theater this week with a couple of my friends. I'll be sure to keep my eyes open!
