Oh Svetabel, I also wanted to start a topic on Princess Mathilde! :) Wonderful!! You have posted great pics, I have not seen many of them! Some trivia about Mathilde: She was born as the 6th child of Prince Ludwig of Bavaria (became king in 1913) and his wife Princess Marie Therese, née Archduchess of Austria-Este, on August 17th 1877 in the Villa Amsee in Lindau, the summer residence of the family. Mathilde, the favourite daughter of her father and also the favourite of her grandfather Luitpold, didn´t always feel very well in the big family (she had 12 sibblings, of whom two died as babies and her favourite brother Wolfgang died as a teenager). She didn´t get along very well with her mother either. In the late 1890s, the were rumors that Mathilde was going to marry Don Jaime of Bourbon (1870-1931), son of the Duc of Madrid, the head of the Carlists. But as the Bavarian family didn´t want to get involved in the Spanish succession conflict, the pair wasn´t allowed to marry. Anyway, in 1900, Mathilde married Prince Ludwig of Coburg, who was out of the catholic line of the family. It was widely known that this wasn´t a love match at all and that Mathilde only married him to get away from home. In 1901 and 1904 her children Antonius and Maria Immaculata were born, who both did not have offspring. Mathilde had problems with her lungs and in 1906 she died due to consumption in a sanatorium in Davos, Switzerland, in the arms of her mother.
Mathilde was a known beauty ("Bayern schönste Königstochter"-Bavarias most beautiful Princess) and she loved poetry. She also wrote poems by herself which were published ("Traum und Leben"-Dream and life) by her teacher, the famous Bavarian author Ludwig Ganghofer.

There's a little, really lovely cemetery in front of the church of Rieden.
Maria, Princess of Bavaria, her husband Ferdinand and her children Maria Antonietta and Rogerius are buried there as well as Mathilde's son Antonius.

I think I have a least one more pic of Mathilde at home. I'll post it tomorrow.

I've just read that Ludwig of Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha married only one year after Mathilde's death Anna Gfn von Trauttmansdorff-Weinsberg (1873-1948.). They had another daughter called Joséphine (1911-1997). Does anyone have pictures of Anna or Joséphine?

Princess Mathilde's daughter Maria Immaculata (Leopoldine Franziska Theresia Ildefonsa Adelgunde Klementine Hildegard Anna Josepha Elisabeth Sancta-Angelica Nicoletta) died only aged 35. Does anyone know the cause of her death? Or any facts about her life?

Some pics of Prince Ludwig, his wife Marie Therese and their children ...

Marie, I don´t know much about Princess Maria Immaculata, but it was said that both she and her brother were rather odd. Antonius, who always had money problems as an adult, used to do monkey buisnesses with his friends. He used to get violent when he became angry. He really sounds like a terribly nice guy!
