I have also read Coryne Hall's Little Mother and agree with everyone that it is a wonderful book and has certainly been incredibly well researched and I would highly recommened it. However, I also enjoyed the earlier biographies by Tisdall and Poliakoff.
I am a bit gutted not to be in a position to read the Russian Language biographies that are out there, especially as Svetabel recommends them. I believe there is also one in Danish as well.
Does anyone know if they are published online as I think my husband has found an AP for translating long texts. Don't ask me how that works, I've only just mastered making posts on this forum but if anyone could post a link I will let him look at it with his array of gadgets and IT skills.

some illustrations are also in this edition. but nothing new. more interessting is to read her own words about events (WWI, abdication) and her relation to other family members, friends. I never knew that she met Empress Eugenie, for example.

Empress Eugenie was quite friendly to her sister Alix of Wales.

I know some of you had been talking about the "Little Mother of Russia" book and how it was out of print and expense when found, but I found it on Amazon for only 12 bucks! http://www.amazon.com/Little-Mother-Russia-Biography-Fedorovna/dp/0841914214
Just thought I'd let everyone know. :)

Congrats. It is one of the best in English (only 3 others ("Dowager Empress" by Tisdall, "Motherdear: The story of Dowager Empress of Russia" & "Secret Letters of the last Tsar & Dowager Empress" by Bing)).

Marie's life does feature prominently in Theo Aronson's "A family of Kings".

Maria Feodorovna's Diaries
« Reply #192 on: July 10, 2014, 01:32:48 AM »
Sorry to start a new topic but the other one concerning this subject is very old.

I know Maria's diaries from the years 1914-1923 have been published in Russian and Danish but have there been any official translations in English? I unfortunately can't read Russian or Danish and I would really like to read them. Does anyone know any English translations of her diaries?

Maria is my favorite Romanov so it would be great to know what she was writing about during this time period!

I think there is an English translation to Dagmar's diaries.

Really???

Do you know where and by who? I would appreciate it very much.

I have the Royal Digest reprint of her letters with Nicholas as well as some of her correspondence that was featured in the 1997 Copenhagen exhibition catalog on her and I found a lot of what she wrote to be very interesting and in some cases pretty revealing. I hope her diaries are as good, especially considering the time period they cover!
